Why no more soft top cars in these lists.....the quetion is a "summer car".

I am surprised not more of you appreciate how uch fun darting about with the roof off is!! especially in something a bit oldskool, not these modern CC things that feel like big ford fiestas to drive!
What about an old maser biturbo spider or somethign like that! Cheap, leak, break down a bit, but fr a weekend summer car....!?!?!?

Quality list mate - 16v GTE Champion with the fishnet headrests - loving it, always wanted one when I had my 8v GTE....Cav GSi - I loved mine when I had it and would love another....



I looked for a 325i sport E30 cpl of years back but could not find the right one - they were all seeming to be snapped up and taken over to Ireland - very popular there...


For me to have a car tucked in the garage I'd be hard pushed justifying anymore than about 5-6k realistically with paying mortgage, kids, etc etc

Looks great Jason, I helped my mate build his about 4 years ago, he went for black with the red leather interior, he has just bought the proper fan housing & casing etc to put on the 2.0ltr eng, he wants it as close to the real thing as poss...what eng did you have in yours, not that it matters in one of these, as said they are not really for going fast in.
Hey you should take that to inters" instead of the S3, I will come in the black one, Glenn is possible going in his 911-that would brighten up the stand lol!!!:icon_thumright:

Cheers Wes. I have toyed with the idea of going to Inters in it. I know Glen came in his 911 year before last and they let him on the stand.... sounds like a plan!

Mine is Meridian Silver - a current Porsche colour, but probably the least common one you see. It's got full black leather and black carpets. Engine wise it is a 1.8litre twin carb 'Arnie Levics' recon unit from a Type 2. He normally quotes around 90bhp. As it only weighs 750kg it is fast enough for me - hampered by the original Beetle gearbox. As you say, buy it for looks and posing not for racing around in. Then again, there is a red one with an Impreza Turbo engine in it (0-60 less than 4 secs!!!)

I have been on track in it at Castle Combe - but only on a parade lap. You ought to check out www.speedsters.com - the club is at Combe for the classic and sports car action day on the 14th June - I can't make it this year - but we normally get around 20 cars turn up. Here is a shot from a couple of years ago taken from the top of the Shawfield Centre:

Good point - I think I'd have to make a call based on the weather. The speedster doesn't do rain, mud or dirt!
