hi, back again asking for advice please, i have a relatively new to me s3 '01 AMK. its has a custom code map, forge tip, forge 007, n249 delete.
over the last few weeks, i have replaced some breather pipes, trying to get rid of the leaks and a squeaky sounding boost. i had it into the garage for the vac pipes under the inlet to be replaced, at which time it was smoke tested, and believed to be leak free. the car felt better after this, it removed the hesitation in building boost between gears that was there, and was feeling good. i drove approx 180 miles, and by the end of this i could hear the turbo stalling as i let off throttle. suspecting that the forge 007 may not have been serviced for as while, i popped on a 710n OE valve. flutter noise sorted. i drove back home 200 miles or so, car felt ok, though boosting still sounds 'squeaky/moany' might be normal as i have no point of reference, first turbo car.

i went to empty the car this morning, and heard noise from bonnet. its the aux water pump. goes on and off as it feels like it and car is cold. gave it a scan and got some codes...

no lights on dash
idle on startup was a bit erratic, smoothed out when coolant temp got to 58deg
long term fuel trims are sitting at +4.7 were at +3 when i bought car.
battery was off to change alternator, so i'm guessing that's the p1602 covered?
i have had a feeling all along that not all the power is there. most i've seen using torque is 179whp.
i've got vcds lite, but can get a licence if this will really help.

any advice on where to start or poke next would be much appreciated...

i have just given the connector to the water pump a wiggle, and its possible to make it start and stop, will make sure its connecting properly...

yes, that is the one. i think this is just a connector issue, though the code:

17704/P1296/004758 - Error in Mapped Cooling System
Possible Symptoms
  • Cold start issues
Possible Causes
  • Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) faulty
  • Coolant Thermostat faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)
  • Check Coolant Thermostat
might suggest its the sensor? would dodgy wiring cause the code?
thermostat was changed when i did the alternator.

17863 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 1 (G235): Implausible Signal
P1455 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

i left the plug off the thingy to the underside of the inlet manifold when doing the alternator. i guess this is what threw the code?
