Hey guys! I currently drive an S3 and contemplating either a B5 RS4 or a Z4M next year...

Id just like peoples thoughts on the RS4? worth the money? Any common faults?

Sell it to me.....lol

Don't know how a B5 compares to a B7 but be aware of fuel consumption, I say this as I went from a Golf GTI (running about 250bhp) that I thought was thirsty to my RS4, now I rarely see over 25mpg.

Deffo have an RS4 over a Z4M any day though!

Cant really comment on faults with an B5 RS4 as never owned one. But id much prefer one rather than the Z4M

Do it, but take your time and get a good one - I've got a B5 in addition to the S3, and they're well worth it. Performance is in a different league to the S3, especially once they've been mapped. I'm sure the B5 RS4 will feel fairly familiar if you're coming from an S3.

Fuel consumption is about 20mpg in town or about 26mpg on a run, so I tend to use the S3 for any work trips when I claim mileage.

Main issues have covered in pretty good depth over on AudiSRS/RS246, but basically the main things to look out for are cam wear, oil line corrosion, turbo issues, etc. but the main thing is to stay on top of any maintainance, and don't be too worried about a modified car if it's got receipts from a good specialist.

Thanks graemep!

My mate had an AMD mapped B5 and was pretty nippy! Thats my thoughts exactly, as ive had 3 S3's as i adore them, the only realistic power upgrade would be to an RS4 (looked at RS6's aswell)

Have you had any problems with yours?

Have owned mine over 4 years now, and the first big bill was this year when I had to have two cam and the followers replaced, as well as replacing the oil lines - so a fairly big bill. Things like brake discs/tyres can be expensive in comparison to the S3 as well, so budget for that or work it into what you pay based on condition of those.

The other bills have come from upgrades - full Milltek, MRC remap, B7 front brakes, ARB's among other things.

I have looked at B7 RS4's with a view to a newer car, but have pretty much ruled that out.

I've considered a C5 RS6 as well but I'm put off a bit by the cost of replacement gearboxes and the DRC issue -In hindsigny I'd rather go for the B5 RS4 on the basis that there are more parts available out there for tuning and some great tuners, like Doug at MRC for example.

my cousin gets 12mpg on his b7 rs4

I bet that gets driven hard! I usually get a return of around 18-22 per tank. (thats with a mixture of WOOOOOOOOO driving and relaxed cruising)

Just put a deposit on a freind of a friends B5 RS4. Misano red, 2001, 84k miles, nav, carbon inserts, Miltek from turbo back including cats / no pre cats, stage 2 map, B7 Front brakes.... Well excited :)

I'd go for it. I dont have one, but a mate of mine does, and it looks better, drives faster, handles cleaner and feels more stable than any other car I've driven

Will indeed be posting some pics up soon! Its stage 3 not 2 (like i said previous) so estimated 460bhp :)

Will certainly be abit of a shock from the standard noggy s3 im in now :)

PS. I''m jealous!!!!!!

Epic pics! Similar to mine (tints all round) and the best thing is, its coming with a set of black 19" genuine B7 wheels along with the B5's :)

Need to get some aero wipers!!!

Does anyone no what splitter that is?

It looks like the good ol' Seat Leon Cupra R Splitter - you can buy these from any Seat Dealership for about £25 and they really do make a difference to the look of your car - I put one on mine and it made mine look a little more "aggressive" and gave it a slightly lower look

Jules's RS4 is indeed immense! Cant say ive ever seen white bbs ch's :)

Marc1 count me in! I love york so any excuse!! lol.

Cool, will be good to meet you Scott. Are you on SRS yet? If not, get yourself signs up, a wealth of info on these cars.

I am now :)

Cheers marc

fantastic car youve got there by the way! I wanted a noggy one initially!

Do it.

I changed from a (modified) B6 S4 to a (modified) B5 RS4 last week and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm sure it will cost a fair bit more to run but the performance is in an entirely different league. It does sensible and comfortable when you want it but then wake the turbos up and it launches down the road so quickly it's actually quite scary.

Haha, your telling me BillTheButcher! Matt whos selling it took me out and its awesome! Especially from a standard S3 ;)

My old S4 had about 360-370 BHP and I thought that was quite quick but this RS4 is brutal. When I took it out on the test drive and floored it for the first time I heard myself saying "F*cking hell!". So much for playing it cool in front of the salesman.

Haha, so what powers your RS4 now? 'Brutal'.... i couldnt describe it any better myself :)

Not sure exactly. 450-460 I think. I've only had it a week so once it's had its service next month I'll get it on a RR. :)

Cheers mate. Hard to keep fighting the argument that Noggy is the fatest colour tho now when so many Misano's are stage 2 plus :-(

Might be time I had a little upgrade soon. Hurray!!!

And on the subject of RR, I'm hoping to get a dyno day sorted at Dyno Dynamics (same estate as Unit 20) for all us Northen Lot. Can't remember er where you are Bill, but might be one for you. Failing that there's one at MRC in Dec for everyone lower down the country.

I'm originally from very near where Unit 20 are but we now live in South Oxfordshire so MRC are much more local. :)

Id deffo be up for having mine rolled! Would be interesting to see what everyones running!
