When would you suggest to replace timing chain on the 1.8tfsi 2009 shaped audi a3. I know the service book says 100k miles, but would it be better to replace it beforehand? And if so what other components should be changed as well? Thank you.

I just bought a 2009 on a 59 plate 1.8TFSI A3 today. I asked about a timing belt and they said replace at 5 years regardless of mileage. They specifically said belt and not chain. Are they wrong ?

Cross ref using the engine code as stated in the cars' DVLA log book

Belts tend to be about 80k miles or 5 years.

AFAIK if dip stick in front of engine it's a belt. If at end to the left side it's a chain.

Yup dipstick on the side so looks like I have a chain. So is it a 100k replacement job or done on age. I think there are 3 chains from what I researched

It's a variant of the E888 engine and as far as I know they are all chain driven, so as long as you change the oil regular it should be good for at least 100k.
