Just picked up a S4 B8 6MT and absolutely love it.

I started it up this morning and heard the dreaded timing chain rattle for a second.

Cat settles down and it goes. After a few seconds you can then hear the timing chain tapping.

Video link with it tapping for a minute.

I've read it normal for the first bit for a second but the tapping for a minute or so worries me.

Just had a oil change and not sure what oil went in...looking at changing the oil to Millers 5w40...anyone reckon this might sort it or is it something more serious?

It does sound like the tensioner to me. But I'm no expert.
Do you know a friendly mechanic who can take a look for you . I would make it sharpish, don't want to kill your engine .

I took the tsb to Audi on my b8.5 they replaced tensioners on both banks. It was approved by Audi UK warranty claim. It says it doesnt cause any damage but when you know it's there it is annoying.

Actually they will probably ask for full Audi service history if you got it?? As they did with me.

Dealership has coughed up the money to replace timing chain and tensioners so I'm happy now.

On a side note has anyone used LUK clutche kit in there manual S4?

LUK are the same as OE clutch wise.
Sachs make an uprated clutch that holds more power/torque

That's good news.
Was it a fairly pain free experience . In my experience, dealers don't normally admit any wrong doing. It won't be a cheap job .

Yea I think it's about 1k in labour 10hrs at Audi's double labour rate.

Yeah mate very pain free...got a Audi specialist to look at it and they phoned the dealership to say that was a pre existing condition so the dealership paid the quote for straight away
