So a few weeks ago I drove my 2007 Audi A3 1.8tfsi s-lube to work with no problems. When I started her up to come home it was a different matter. She took ages to fire up and then she was running really lumpy. In all my wisdom o thought it could have been a bit of **** thrown up because I had let her run really low on fuel. So my really experienced brain told me to fill up and give it a good booting on the way home. Seemed like a good idea at the time. She ran great all the way home. Until the next day. Same thing. Ages to start and really lumpy. I put my code reader in and got the dreaded p0016 code. Oh ****. What damage have I done?????!?!?!? I didn’t use her or even attempt to start her again. A good friend of mine at work got the car recovered and delivered to a company called midland VW. I explained the problem to them and they were great. 2 days later I had a call from them saying my car was all done and I was possibly the luckiest Audi driver alive. The chain tensioner was failing and it had slipped just out of time and hadn’t actually done any damage at all. New timing chain rails and tensioner and everything else to go with it and she’s running even better than ever. I understand that there was a recall on these engines because of a fault with the tensioner. How do I find out if my car was recalled?

Ring Audi, give them your VIN.

I'm not aware of a tensioner issue but I am aware of excess oil usage with the 1.8 tfsi.

    Thanks bro.

Oh yeah she uses a bit of oil but nothing crazy. Once every 6 months.

one of my close friends told me about a recall for all 1.8 and 2.0. Tfsi owners for a tensioner refit for catastrophic damage issues.

Any owner of one of these chain TFSI /FSI needs to ensure they have the latest version of the tensioner fitted, there were apparently several versions before they got it right.
There are some useful vids on youtube about this.

I also have a 2007 1.8tfsi, is yours the BZB engine? What's the mileage?

You were lucky that Midland VW looked at it for you. There are some dodgy plasces about that would have charged you a load more for work that probably didn't need doing.

Same as mine. Man these engines are like ticking time bombs. Every time I start her up it's like russian roulette! Mine's only got 46k but I read online the tensioner can go at anytime. Lucky yours didn't wreck the engine. How much was it?
