Well guys, I went down to Audi today.

Asked for a quote, as I want my timing Belt done and also a service just for peace of mind.

£1500 :blownose:

cars done 34k

Ach well the joys !

Oh my !!! ... I'm not looking forward to it myself either. I've bought my car a couple of weeks ago, but the service indicator says its due in about 1000 miles or so and its not one of those small Oil change services either.

There have got to be good sensible options. I was advised to use Fontain. I'm not sure as they are Audi specialists but not Audi dealers as such. It'll probably affect the resale price of my RS6 if I did use a non Audi dealer to service my car too? Pity really, as I know some really GOOD service outlets and mechanics.

Not sure yet what is the best thing to do ...

Agreed mate, ive had some hi tech cars, and trust me if you dont have main dealer on an Rs6 you will have real worries selling it again.

And the complete truth is some of the small independent mechanics are FAR better !!

I must agree..you need the dealer stamos but fontian is well known and can also carry out warranty work on Audis now.!

Mine has done 34k so cambelt due Feb next year..but I will do it myself and borrow the tools off my mate at Audi..no way letting anyone else work on this car.....!!!! no way.

I have extended warranty so need the services to be done at the dealer, BUT with block execption they can't preasure you into only using Audi main dealers..as long as you use Audi OEM parts with a reciept it is ok to service anywhere you want even with a brand new car

I see you are in Scotland mate - have you got a quote for the work from Ingram Audi in Ayr?

I use them, and they are generally 35% ish less than the service costs at the usual franchise stealers (Glasgow/Stirling/Edinburgh Audi). Ingram no longer have the franchise to sell new Audis, but the workshop and mechanics are still Audi approved, you get an Audi stamp in the book, and the warranty is still honoured.

They've done a decent job for me on the last couple of visits (due a service tomorrow in fact!).

Worth a go???

Thanks mate appreciated, Im just a bit far away though, Im up near Aberdeen so it would be a hell of a run.

Im going to use Audi Hawco in Elgin, Ive been asking about and so far nothing but good has been said about them.

I was luck with mine, it has been done, the next one will be in about 3 years time as I dont do the miles.. But yer Crawley Audi said it would be about 2K

Gosh ... myabe it is just me but I'm still taking that in. I'm just thinking, even if it takes them the whole day, say a whole 7 hours to do the service. Thats still £420 labour inc (at £60/hour you mention). So the parts cost around £1200 inc? Maybe I'm looking at this too simplistically.

However, I used to own a BMW 7 series (E38 - still do actually) which I bought when it was fairly new (a couple of years old) and I used get quoted all kinds of full service rates, from £800 all the way to £2k ! Such variance! (Scotland was always cheaper for me, especially Perth). So what I used to do was get the very basic service done which used to be around £300 and get them to mark all the things that needed changing / required work done to it (they do this as part of the service). Then I would buy all the parts that I required from BMW and take it to my mechanic mate to fix. That way I got the stamp I needed, got all the original parts and had all the work done by my mate in front of my eyes!
I wonder whether Audi has a basic charge for servicing? Can't be that high surely!

I hope its not a case of RS6 = expensive car with discerning driver taste = affordability = high service rates = £1.5K .... Just thinking aloud ...
.:uhm:

Gosh I'm not looking forward to mine !!!

That will equate to 2 days work.Cambelt is about 5 hrs from memory insit they change all the rollers and the water pump..might aswell for what the part cost.
The plugs are £15 aprox and then it takes tons of oil..£1600 is not bad I wouldn't pay that but is ok

996T 48K is 7.9hrs and will cost you £1100 that is with out the belt so I really don't think that is a bad quote.

Audi have got a menu pricing system and the RS is not wacked with a premium if that is what you may have been thinking.

Ask for a menu price print out you should get it this will include book times...the times believe me are in the customers favour as they are warranty times....all times worked out when engine out sort of thing....

Part of the 40K is a cambelt check (40k can be done sooner depending on age) so make sure they have not added abit on for this.

When replacing the air filter ask them to change the airflow meter rings and the rubber stops for the air box...

Mine where worn and when accelerating hard the airbox moved and engine light came on..!!!

VAG-COM to the rescue!! unmetered air delt with it and now ok..2 rubber bungs and airflow meter rings and she is good too go.!
