Could be time for me to go.... extended test drive of this 6k mikes ex demo fully loaded Cayman S today that’s available start December, planning on putting down a holding deposit next week before I head off to Oz for a month

Looking for convincing argument to make me stay with this or serious offers (17 months, 13k miles) to make it easier to switch to Porsche

P.S Cayman would get platinum painted wheels before I collected it as part of the deal

Very nice mate, very hard to provide compelling g arguments to keep an S3 over a Cayman S. if it was an RS3 could be a Little easier

In a straight line maybe but handling was something else, bends I would normally be coming off the gas at the Cayman was still accelerating into and went round like it was on rails. In all fairness the standard Cayman I also drove was not significantly better than the S3 until you kicked it into the Sport Chrono

Massive fan of the Cayman but always seem very expensive compared to S3’s, talking more RS3 sort of money.

If you can do without the rear seats and all year driveability of Quattro I wouldn’t think twice personally. Plus the Cayman in the pictures looks great!

Thanks for all the replies, more I think the more a no brainier. Especially as you can’t factory order Cayman S’s until middle of next year as only std and GTS versions have been through the new emissions tests and actually no manuals available at all.

So Cayman S’s only available as stock or ex demo.

Nice man at Porsche has even offered for a small holding deposit to take it off sale until I get back from Oz with the options to switch the deposit to a specced up cayman or low end GTS

Agree Quattro makes S3/rs3 much better daily all year round, but Porsche do hold their value BIG time. I would love one, but would definitely need to be a 2nd car, and that at the moment is a little Mini JCW

Agree mate, go for it. Thought this one was already specced up? Would you be buying cash or finance? Interested what kind of deals they offer, and ballpark figures without being too specific. Fully understand if you would rather not.

No discounts it’s Porsche !!!! Nearest you get is ex demo which is what tempted me around £58k on a list of £64k.

Is pretty much specced up but does not have active suspension or torsion vectoring which you need on the standard to beef it up along with sports chrono tonfrt performance close to cayman S with bells and whistles.

Once deal is done i’ll post full spec up here

Hi mate got to be honest and say no... Why . .? that colour is awful a colour makes or breaks a car no matter if its a Porsche or a Aston Martin etc etc plus its got standard xenon lights .... I like the alloys though, Porsches suit bolder colours like red, white, even better Miami Blue it looks stunning in this colour as there's one not that far away from me

Knew you would play the colour card :)

TBF, standard Xenons are not that bad on the Cayman but would have preferred LED's, but small compromise for what the car is.

    Had the M2 comp yet?

Wasn’t thinking discount, as know they don’t do them, but more what kind of deposit and monthlies. I ha e always dreamed of a Porsche, 911 to be fair and will have one one day, but probably not for 10 years or so.

Penetrator was quoting £5k dep and £750 odd p/m over 4 years, but that is on a specc’d up new cayman. Can’t recall exact model.

You'll get a discount off a Porsche don't kid yourself

i went through the 718 cayman thing as well before my Saloon mine's came to almost £54k £9k deposit roughly £590@month Pauper spec 20"s PDK,Bose,PASM,Miami Blue,Folding mirrors, some sort of leather upgrade with 2 way electric seats...just the Cayman not the S....basic Cayman is the better of the 2.... if l where going bucket list Cayman l would do my own configuration

Go get your own mate....who ever configured that car got it so wrong...99% sure it was management who did the configuration...they normally configure them Demos...my son's 530d Xdrive has a terrible spec it doesnt even have Led light upgrade...ie no led front turn signal....its a bulb..but it has a £5000 paint job very similar to a standard option colour, yeah a ****** up spec,Porsche are all about getting the spec right....Snobbish they are

M2 will come soon, just to find the time

We put a deposit on a stock cayman 718 mid August with a list price of £53k which they were giving us for £48 so a 5k discount. Worked out at £5k deposit and £548 a month. Had to cancel as the wife’s company weren’t keen on her car allowance and fuel card on a perceived sports car. Not a professional look apparently. Still, nicest car I’ve ever driven. Still see pics I took of it on my phone and feel the disappointment all over again

For sure about management specced car as its the head sales managers current car that's why the holding deposit and month down under to think it over....two compromises are LED's and colour (would spec GT silver) verses getting my hands on the S 350BHP and 4.2 secs to 62mph at £6K discount and one of the few available for 9 months

Love the look of the 718 but I’m not sure on the engine noise.

My sister has a red 981 Cayman S and I still think my RS sounds nicer.

Driving wise, there isn’t much out there that would compete for the price.

    Go for it

others here have more experience than me on the subject, but if I had the opportunity to ditch the sensible family hatch for a Cayman S, I'd think the answer would be straight forward, ..... bye bye S3

    Missed this yesterday @jassyo06

standard Cayman I drove was Miami Blue with a clear wrap that gives a semi matt finish which looked really good. Understand what you mean about bold colours and like them myself but not as a daily drive.

Going to have to put up with a fair few ‘twat with a mid life crisis” type comments so happy to go understated and just enjoy the car. Also won’t get hassled on the road “down south” as much as that always took the edge off the 2 Sepang S3’s I had and the Vegas Yellow TTS loaner I once had

Those that say mid life crisis or criticise otherwise are just jealous they couldn't afford the same "crisis". Screw em and enjoy the car, clearly you've worked hard to be in such a position!

I think you have already made your mind up mate! Your S3 looks lovely, but so would your Cayman!

If it's from a main dealership ask them about the warranty (if it's a non main dealership you can still arrange it), I was talking to one of their sales guys a couple of months back and I mentioned about the long term cost of ownership, I'm sure he said you can keep renewing it up until the car was 14 years old! He also said something about just before it's due to be renewed take it in for an inspection and if anything needs changing they will do it for free, if you wait until the warranty has finished and then try to renew the warranty anything they find on the renewal check you have to pay for before they start the warranty again!...he did go into more detail, but I forget now! It sounded a good thing to do.
