Not sure if anyone will be able to help with this but thanks for having a look.

I've got a 2.0T DSG that has developed a new ticking noise, sounds just like the piezo electric thing you light the hob with but a bit quicker. It's intermittent and only heard at at idle, easily loud enough to hear in the cabin with the windows closed.

It's not changed by being in D or N so probably not drive chain related. Oil level is fine. No power loss or boost leak that I can notice.

With the bonnet open it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine, but the 2.0T is pretty ticky anyway so it's hard to pinpoint it closer than that.

It's an 05 reg at 57k.

If it's not a known problem I'll drop it off to be checked out.

Nope, mine doesn't have the very high pitched ticking noise as per that video, although videos can make sounds sharper than they really are.
Its hard to describe but mine does have a ticking noise, but I doubt you'd be worrying about it if that is what you are hearing from yours.
Also I can't hear the ticking from inside the car, all I can hear is the usual engine rumble (i.e. a lower sounding ticking).

Yeah it's the high pitch ticking and it's easily heard from within the car with the engine idling, I'll see if I can get it booked in for peace of mind.

Mine's got a sort of lower pitched metallicky tapping noise about once a second or so - you can clearly hear it from the outside of the car. It's coming from the timing belt area just next to and below the coolant reservior. It's been looked at twice now & my trusted modder says it's simply something lightly touching the metal cover after he had a good look at it. He swears it's not timing belt related & is doing no harm.

Worth you getting it checked out anyway - I'd hate to tell you it was nowt & then your cambelt snap!

Update - just reread your posts OP & see yours is high pitched, so I'll shut up and get me coat...

Nah Biggie, I put that myself. Someone messed with my last one and changed it to GAY or something and I got told by a mod to change it. Benny Hill was the first thing that came to mind. lol

LOL! Back to the ticking noises in my head to keep this all on topic...

The ticking is normal on those engines, heard this on a mates new 2010-11 S3 & another mates S3 07, the S3 8L had an annoying ticking noise that was part of the engine, normal then aswell, dont worry about it unless its very loud, then have it looked at given its an 05, may need the ticking part replaced, which would probably still create a ticking noise but quieter.

If the Ticking noise is normal then if it stops i suspect it need replacing...if it gets louder its getting more normal.
Car bombs often tick and when they stop you have to replace the whole car and surrounding scenery usually. In the S3 there is a ticking unit that counts down 10k miles and then destroys the clutch. Ultimately you need to take it to a specialist ticking person who has been trained to say.." Nah, they all do that mate" for piece of mind.
