Hi all,

My 2000 Audi A3 1.8 T-Sport Quattro has just done 63,000 miles and is due an interim oil service.
I rang a local independent specialist to book it in and they said I needed the cam belt replacing. I pointed out that
I had been adviced it wouldnt need doing for another 10,000 miles so I wanted to wait until the next service.

They said they it is supposed to be done every 5 years or 72,000 miles which ever is first, herefor I should get it done.
Is this correct?

Should I get it done now or wait until the next service at 73,000?

Also do I need to get the oil and filter changed in the haldex coupling as its a quattro and I dont know the last time it was done?

I think it is correct, yes, either way you'd be gutted if it went in the interim, more sensible to get it done im my view. So is the belt 10 years old?

Mine had something done with the Haldex at the 60K service, not sure if it was just the oil, filter or both??

yes belt is 10 years old, ive been told to get water pump done at same time?

I would have the belt AND the water pump changed,
I had my car booked in the same day as i bought it,
Too many horror stories, If there is no record of the haldex oil and filter being changed i would do that too. Its not a massively expensive job

Your belt is 10 years old and you're asking whether you should have it changed or not?

and make sure they replace the belt tensioner/damper thing, I dont know my self, but have seen people on here emphasize the need for this to be changed along with the belt...

yes im asking because I know very little about engines and I dont want to pay for somethign until I need it! I was told 2 different things so was trying to find out what was the corect information.
I will definately be getting it changed now along with the haldex filter and oil.
Thanks for all your helpfull replies:)

Blimey I have just had the quote!
To do basic oil service, change cambelt and water pump, brake fluid and haldex filter and oil they are quoting me £862.58!
Maybe im naive but I was expecting £500 tops!
Does this seem reasonable?
The car is only worth £3000!

Where are you based? who quoted that?

No,
Its an independt specialist,
RSD in Daventry.
I live in Luterworth in Leicestershire.

I would shop around, I reckon you can get it done cheaper.

I think i payed less than that and had 2 top mounts and a power flex dogbone mount included

dean@ 4 rings. indi. quoted me nearer what you was expecting with water pump, belt and every thing else.
