Hi everyone - first post...

I used to own a 93 Audi 100 2.0E manual, of which I have fond memories...

I'm now being severely tempted by a 1993 2.5 TDI. It has 68k miles on it (genuine, backed by old MoTs etc). It has been dry stored for the last 2 years, is in very good condition, and seems to run well.

Firstly, what's it worth? It has no MoT, although I shouldn't think it'll have too many problems passing (and the current owner is happy to make the purchase subject to it passing).

Secondly, what should I look out for? My list (so far) is to change the cam belt, fuel pump belt & alternator belt (quoted £385 by my local Audi dealer, but there's got to be a better value option than that!). I've had a play about with the handbrake and it seems to be functioning correctly (my last 100 - and the previous 80 - had problems with the handbrake cam inside the rear caliper wearing - if I remember correctly, you can get away with turning the cam around once, then it's down to replacing calipers to fix the problem).

What else?

The car isn't a Quattro, doesn't have air-con, leather or any of the desireable extras. It doesn't have a tow bar (which is good news - except it'll mean fitting one) - it has a load space liner thingy. Bodywork is red (non metallic) and upholstery black (Jacquard??) cloth.

Tyres seem reasonable - mounted on 6 spoke alloys which are in pretty good condition (5 of them, too). Finally, the car is north of Aberdeen (although quite close to a mate's house, so that's not as big a snag as it might sound).

Any advice very welcome - I've left a bid on it, but I think his expectation (borne out of placing a high premium on the mileage) is unrealistic - so we're staring each other out a the moment... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Is this the 5 Cylinder engine?? If so your heading on the right path to get the cambelt changed, this was the same engine that was fitted to the T4 Transporter/Caravelle and caused some concern.. problems with overheating, oil pumps needing replaced etc etc... however like all cars if it has a wealth of reciepts to boot then you shouldn'y go far wrong with her, looks the part, make sure that the oil & Filter change is done regular and you'll be fine... Try Specialist Cars, Bavarian Auto Werke, and a chap opened up himself called Kevin located down on the harbour side where the "Nightlife" goes on apparently **wink**Wink** /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Supposed to be really good with VW/Audi.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ok.gif

I agree with 28v6

Price for the car with that mileage £1400-1600 ish

Thanks for the advice. The engine is a 6 cylinder - the same as used by Volvo - married to a six-speed gearbox.

Is the estimated value based on a car with an MoT - with the cost of a belt change to be added to it?

Cheers

ps Kevin - how much would you want to fit new cam/fuel pump & alternator belts?

Yes to the MOT but not the belt change

Ah well, he's put an MoT on it now, started driving it & has decided he doesn't want to sell it...
