The reason for choosing your remap provider?

Hi guys,

I am no where near use to the new found power my S3 has over my old 1.2 Clio. Needless to say, I am loving it!

However, I know that once I get use to the power, I will be looking for that little bit more and one thing on my mind was that it takes 1st 2nd and 3rd to get to 60. I know quite a bit about remaps as I worked close to a company called RS Tuning (main Clio tuners) in Leeds for several years.

However, there is a massive price difference between a Revo map and several other providers that I have called. I don't mind travelling, but what were the reasons for your choice of remap provider?

Many thanks in advance,

James

I went Custom Code when I had my K04 turbo as I wanted progressive power and tried and tested code... My current mapping is a stage 3 from Badger 5 as my setup needs a stage 3 and Bill knows what he is on about...

My personal view is to go to a tried and tested tuner and get a map of choice from them... by tried and tested I mean someone who specialises in VAG cars and knows the engine... Remaps tend to highlight issues that are sadly only too common in 1.8t based and while 'a map' may well work in a car thats mechanically sound, one with a as of yet unnoticed problem (clutch, coil packs, vacuum and boost leaks to name a few) will raise their ugly heads once you have had the car remapped and being able to identify these issues make or break a tuner in my book...

Thanks Tuffty, that makes a lot of sense.

The car has 68 on the clock and full Audi service, so I want to make use of a tuner that will be able to help if things go wrong.

So you would recommend Custom Code? Any others?

Many thanks!

Revo. punchy boost and i love it. all in all depends what sort of map you want for your car 2bh.

I took my a3 1.8tqs to Vagtech who offer both Revo and Motech maps. I used them because they're Vag specialists and after doing some research on the forums and google I could only find positives. They also offered a very good price for a motech remap and their customer service was spot on. They diagnosed a faulty Lambda sensor and were able to replace it at the same time as doing the map. :icon_thumright:

The Motech map itself is very good, the car picks up a lot better through the rev range, unfortunately i haven't been able to drive/compare my a3 with another running a different map, but I'm pleased with both the map and the service I received.

Dane.

Thanks Rav, but there lies the issue. I understand the maths etc behind the remaps but have no idea what sort of remap I would want on my car.

The only thing that I require currently (as the power is just wonderful coming from a 1.2 French POS!) is a raised rev limiter and more power at the top end, meaning 60 is reached in 2nd.

edit; Thanks Dane, VAG Tech are one of the providers I have been in contact with.

The K04 is only a baby turbo really... generally starts to run out of puff much beyond 5k... most stage one maps will generally give more boost with various timing advance tweaks and fuelling... IIRC, Revo creates a more spiky boost request early on giving that torquey shove people bang on about while the CC is more progressive and feels more like OEM with more power... regardless of remap the K04 boost pressure will start to tail off after 5k as it doesn't have the airflow capacity and subsequently so will the horse power.

You can try a Revo trial which AFAIK is free then if you don't like the way it delivers power go for a more progressive map like CC

60 in 2nd mmm don't think the gearing allows it iirc
Sounds like you need a passenger ride in a few mapped S3's

Thanks again Tuffty Bloke.

Voorhees, couldn't agree more, any offers? I will have a look for a local around the NW/Cheshire, unless anyone has any pointers?

CC were certainly on the list, judging by views and opinions on here.

I may be missing something rather obvious here, but I have a 1.8t A3 and can get near 70 in 2nd I'm sure. I, of course, assume we are talking MPH or have I answered my own question?

You have a 5 speed gearbox, S3's and some A3 TQS have 6 speed close ratio boxes..

Custom Code - got it because its a nice smooth map with good reviews.

Glad I did!.

You can get 60 in second if you have the rev limit raised to 7.8k :whistle2:

<tuffty/>

I heard one of those Chips from ebay for £17 can do this - are they lying?

;)

bah.... 85mph in 1st baby.. muaha ha ha ha haaaaaa

Many thanks for this input.

CC will come out to you.......or look on their site for one of their many suppliers

Raising the rev limiter isn't difficult in a custom map, the praticalities are a different issue... On a k04 turbo'd S3 its pretty much pointles as it hasn't enough flow to create power much past 5.5k let alone its current redline mapped or not...

Mines raised as I have a big turbo, big turbo's spool later and still produce power at high RPM which moves the effective power band from 2k-5.5k to 3.2k-7.5k so this is why mine is higher... however... there is a cost... this cost is reliability of the valve train. Std valves are 2 piece and have been known to seperate on std cars so high revving powerful engines its pretty much enevitable... Supertech valves (and yes, maybe springs too Bill) are on my to do list as a matter of priority as I don't fancy having to rebuild my engine just yet...

Had my remap done by Chipped UK, Bromsgrove. Was part of a rolling road/remap day. Had it done over a year now and the car has been great. Always puts a smile on my face :icon_thumright:
