After five years in development, it's finally been given a release date... for the US. Those lucky chaps will be getting it in November. Those in the UK will probably see it around Xmas time IMO.

Anyway check out the latest trailer from this years' E3 conference:

Enjoy!

Damn it, thats good enough to be asking for a PS3 for Christmas :)

I thought around that 1 min mark that it had switched to video.........simply awesome! I wonder what microsoft will be able to offer, i dont see the next project gotham being as good somehow.

This has to be more eagarly awaited than the world cup. Hope this doesnt dissapoint.

To be honest in terms of realism, control and damage forza has always been far superior to gran turismo!

In GT I have always found the controls samey, the cars dont feel different and their have never been any real dynamics at work in previous games, all the cars sounded pretty much the same.

So lets hope this time they have got it right, gran turismo has always looked fantastic but has never been a true driving simulator

Sorry dude but Forza is good but GT is AMAZING. It is and always has been a true driving simulator

I cannot wait for it to come out.

I'm the biggest Forza fan you can get (I've even got special Forza 3 branded driving shoes!) but it was Gran Turismo that opened my eyes to the authenticity of driving simulators back with the original Playstation.

I've no doubt it's going to be one of the most realistic driving games you can buy on a console. My fear is that Kazunori Yamauchi (the GT creator) is obsessed with making everything look perfect when, in fact, real life isn't perfect.

The biggest problem I've always had with GT is that the cars and tracks look so immaculate the game actually looks a little sterile.

At the end of the day, though - a world with Forza 3 and Gran Turimso 5 in is a very good place to be! :)

Do your research first mate, gran tursimo is a ferrari with a fiesta engine under the bonnet.

Forza is a fiesta with a ferrari under the bonnet.

Looks are not everything

Huh, what research is there to do. What is the highest selling racing/driving simulator EVER

Your comment is completely irrelevent and dont make sense at all to me

Well your comment is ignorant and clueless, google forza or watch a development video or documentary on the game.

In terms of realism forza is the most realistc and technically accurate racing sim ever made, everything from spring compression rates to tyre pressures have been painstakingly researched and included in the game, hell you practically have to be a mechanic to understand half of what is in the game.

Why do you think gran tursimo is the best selling game ever, its quite simple...its because there was a gran tursimo 1,2,3,4 and 5 is on the way, the game has been out for over 10 years and yes 10 years ago it was the best racing sim available, it was also the ONLY racing sim available at that time so thats why it has sold so much over the years.

Gran tursimo is a great game dont get me wrong, but in terms of technical realism it does not touch forza 3

GT5 VS FORZA 3

First off, if you're looking for dirt, you won't find much here. Both upcoming racers Forza Motorsport 3 (Xbox 360) and Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) are sure to be great racing games. That said, I think there's a clear winner here between the two high-profile racers shown on the floor of Tokyo Game Show this year. As you read on, keep in mind that we're not comparing the games themselves as much as we are the demos shown on the TGS floor.

Both were in pretty nifty setups. Gran Turismo 5 had real-world racing seats built into metal frames. Inside, players sat in front of a high-end Sony display while controlling the game with the GT steering wheel set. Forza 3 was played on a three-screen setup. They too had racing chairs and a steering wheel controller. Putting all of that aside, though, which was the better game? Visuals:
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
While both games look great on the track, Forza's demo featured a polish that Gran Turismo 5's lacked. The rocky hillsides and lush greenery easily showed up the bland, almost clinical-looking cityscape of Gran Turismo. Driving slow in Gran Turismo is like inviting disappointment. I guess they were hoping you'd always be moving fast enough to not notice the perfectly flat tree and pole textures. Plants and trees on the side of the road look like paper cutouts, and the tree trunks are laughably bad. As far as the vehicle visuals go, neither game disappoints. Both supply unhealthy doses of car porn. The tighter racing action of Forza 3 made it easier to appreciate the models of the cars I raced against, but both pull off amazing feats as far as visuals go. Forza's framerate was liquid smooth, making it a bit easier on the eyes than GT5.

Control:
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
Solely judging from the two on-floor demos, both of which used adjustable racing seats and steering wheel rigs, Forza 3's control won the race. There was something about the balance of control that made it seem especially intuitive. I'd go as far as to say that it felt damned near flawless with the steering wheel rig they had set up at each demo station. Gran Turismo controlled great as well, with the tilt leaning farther away from arcade action and more towards realism. Nothing was notably wrong with Gran Turismo's control. It's just that the seamless feeling that we felt with the controls in Forza wasn't there in GT5.

Game play:
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
Both games were played on a rather easy track, and both featured racing line guidelines. Other than that, these two games play differently. Forza 3 had me racing against other AI characters that were way too easy to pass, even with the option to set the difficulty. My choice of a medium difficulty looked more like an easy to my eyes. I didn't try the "hard" setting, but I hope it's considerably more difficult than medium was. That said, some of the credit goes, again, to the seemingly flawless control of the game.

As for Gran Turismo, I watched plenty of others wipe out and give up before I played. It looked like people that had never played the series games before sat down and expected arcade racing. As always, Gran Turismo 5 had that realistic acceleration and turning that greatly contrasts to the loose, forgiving controls of other racers (Forza 3 not included, of course). I enjoy the challenge and learning curve, and prefer the rewarding stick-to-your-ribs racing that it provides. Even with that, though, Forza's gameplay was more enjoyable and approachable. It may be a bit more simple than that of GT5, but it still provides ample challenge for white knuckle racing.

If you have to have damage modeling, you want Forza 3. It's just not there in Gran Turismo. While I don't believe that it's a necessity to have damage modeling in a racing game, it is an added bonus. If you play in first-person view like I do, it's fun to see how messed up your vehicle is after a race. Gran Turismo doesn't do that. In fact, side of the road items like cones and tires don't even seem to be affected properly by impact. When I ran into a stack of tires, they seemed to float strangely in front of my car for a second before flying off to the right. I don't need true-to-life physics on these types of collisions, but this looked closer to the movement of a UFO than a stack of rubber tires.

Overall:
I'm a big Gran Turismo fan, so it was a bit of a surprise to me that the Forza Motorsport 3 demo did more for me. Things like damage modeling and background art aside, it was the superb control and high level of accessibility that won me over. Forza 3 was just more fun. More impressive. Of course, this is not to say that Gran Turismo 5 isn't a good game. It will be great, I'm sure, but Forza 3 show floor demo has me wanting to race again. I need to get me one of these three-screen setups too.

DAMO find a million reviews, I cannot be bothered searching the net lol.

GT is the BEST end of. Lets just wait till the actual game is out and read all the reviews then ye. I actually bought a XBOX and XBOX 360 Elite for the Forza's game 1,2 and 3 to keep me entertained till GT at the time comes out and then Forza never got a look in lol. Its a great game but no driving sim like GT.

Alot of people do not like GT because its too realistic, not a push and play game. I was a little disappointed when I played Forza 3 for the first time as it wasnt that realistic to me at all, didnt even look that great, looked cartoony to me. NFS SHIFT was more fun.

By the way them review are reviewing a game which is not even out yet, GT5 Prologue is not even a game as such, more like a demo with a VERY SMALL insight to the game. Did you play the little demo competition game GT released for their GT competition. It was completely different to GT Prologue in the way the car handled and looked and found it very hard to get used.

All I can say is lets wait till the actual GT5 comes out and post up the reviews then which is in you favour.

I personally am withholding all judgement of GT5 until I get the chance to play the finished product. For example, it includes NASCAR races, off-road rallying and finally (albeit only with selected cars by all accounts) damage modelling.

Visually, the tracks and road surfaces have improved considerably since Prologue. Plus, of course, Sony has had plenty of time to look at what Forza 3 has had to offer since it was released in October '09. They know better than anyone the competition they have to beat...

I'm lucky enough to write about videogames for a living, so I try to sample every driving game on most formats (I'm the office petrolhead, so I'm always first in line to review them!)

Something I am particularly excited about - and everybody else should be, as far as I'm concerned - is Codemaster's official F1 2010 game.

I've played several early, uncompleted builds of the game and I can tell you it's AWESOME! Possibly the best Formula One game I have played since the early Geoff Crammond F1GP days. It's out late September but hopefully I'll get to preview a nearly complete version at the end of July...

Wow, now you have an awesome job. Who do you write for? Can you explain why most mags now review games at the same time as they are released? ;)

Are you suggesting that reviews should run before release or after?

Most magazines plan to get their reviews out before the games are released to help guide people towards titles they might like. £40 is a lot to spend and people often don't like taking risks without finding out what some of their trusted reviewers think.

If the reviews runs after a release, people who want the game will probably have bought it already. They only look at mag scores to validate their own opinions. Or disagree with what score has been given, as I've discovered on many occasions!

Due to the nature of monthly publications, most games reviewers try to play the games about six weeks before release. By the time these reviews appear in print, the games are usually just out in the shops and gamers can gather opinions before purchase.

Oh, and full-time I work on GamesMaster but I also contribute to PSM3, Xbox World, NGamer and, on rare occasions, Edge.

Nice, you have one of my dream jobs there, just after race car driver and porn star :)

Back in the good old days games got reviewed about a month prior to release, and as you say you read the review and make a decission about buying the game. Now i find that the game is delivered prior to reading a review. XBOX live demos help.......sometimes. Its almost like the magazines see the game only a week prior to release. I usually read the official xbox mag, but have found other have similar timing. Ow and i never read pre-release info as we all know how this can sometimes rerlate to actual game play.

Some parts of the job are a dream. The pay is a nightmare though!

It's getting harder and harder to convince the games publishers to let us see games earlier. They are getting increasingly sensitive about review scores - if a game gets 'a shoeing' before release then it can affect sales. As most games make their sales within the first week, anything they can do to limit the bad press they'll do...

As a general rule, if you don't see many review scores for a game before release it normally means that it's bad!

Project Gotham is no more, its been replaced by Blur (guys who made PG have made Blur)

how ever i can see Forza Motorsport 4 - if there is going to be one, just as good as GT5, GT5 is the only reason i'd buy a PS3 only coz i've always loved GT! though Forza has captivated me lol

GT5 is lookin great! i was well excited to see the Top Gear test track as well as Stiggy lol

There was a rumour a while ago that Turn 10 Studios (the guys who made Forza) would be making the next Gotham game.

The PGR license itself is owned by Microsoft rather than the developers Bizarre. And, as Bizarre Creations are now owned by Activision, they aren't actually allowed to make any more Project Gotham Games anyway! Well, they could - but they couldn't call it that...

Personally, I think it's unlikely that Turn 10 would make a Gotham game but I don't think Microsoft will leave a successful series like PGR dormant for long...
