temp gauge

Hi my temperature gauge is doing strange things comes up to 70 then back to 50 back 90 the stops working? I know I need to change the temperature cooling sender but are there more than one sender to change or is it just the one at the back of the engine? Would it be worth having the thermostat change at the same time? Any help would be great full. Engine code 1.8T BEX

I'd just change the CTS first as they're about £30 I think. It's not part of the thermostat on the 1.8T is it?
