Hi all, new on here so be gentle.

    I have a 2012 A6 3.0 TDI Avant S-Line.

Still has the original tyres, Pirelli P Zero 245/45R18 100Y. The front 2 were well worn when I bought the car and I swapped them to the back. However, one year on, at 25K miles, they are coming up for replacement, fronts have another 8K miles to go probably.

New ones would go on the back, as recommended, then swap to the front when the front Pirellis are shot, and I would then look to buy another pair to match those I'm buying this time to complete the set.

Been looking online. I like the idea of quiet tyres. Don't like the idea of spending very silly money. Likely options at the moment, apart from the easy option of more Pirellis (£142 each on Asda today), look like either Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, Goodyear Efficientgrip A0, or Dunlop Sportmaxx RT, all around £150 each.

Not asking anyone to research for me, of course, but interested in any good/bad comments about any of these, or indeed any recommended alternatives.

    Many thanks.

PS not buying winter tyres - got an alternative car for the snow!

If your buying online Ive used these guys with great savings, you can also order and have delivered to a local tire fitting centre of your choice at no extra cost (tires are big and heavy - not easy to have delivered at home!)

Delivered brand new tires to my local garage within 4 working days.

Thanks for suggestions on suppliers so far. All the online supplier prices seem much the same within a few quid, though, and allowing for paying for fitting and balancing where it's not included.
Done more reading....I did fancy the Dunlops but seen some comments about poor wear. Maybe I'll go for the Goodyear Eagle F2's. At this sort of money I'm keen not to make a big mistake, you can hardly take them back...

I personally prefer to have a matching set all round - any reason you don't want to stick with the P-Zero, noise or something else?

I've only ever bought Dunlop tyres once and they covered just 40% of the mileage that the previous (and following) Continental tyres did.

Thanks for that. I had hoped to go for a (albeit slightly) quieter tyre, but what the heck the Pirellis have done well so I think I will go for them again.

The new Dunlops have a band in them I believe that makes them quieter. They Tramline a lot thought which I don't like. The Michelin super sport is s superior tyre in my view and experience. Quiet and very assured.

My Pirelli experience is great grip, but soft with it and as a result wears more quickly. The Dunlop contrary to your comment seems very durable.

Assuming you are running quattro I would run the same tyre all round, but thats my preference.

Thanks all. In the end I went for Goodyear Efficientgrip AO. They are certainly quiet. Of course sticking them on the back, in winter, with part-worn Pirellis on the front, I'm noticing the understeer creeping in a bit more, but apart from the occasional foot-on-the-floor-on-the-straight moment I don't drive the car hard anyway. Getting 47mpg overall so I can't be! And no it's not a quattro, unfortunately.
