Hi all,
I am experiencing a strange noise from the front of my 1.8t engine. It sounds like a dry bearing and is speed/load dependent.
when I rev the engine it seems to only do it at around 2000ish rpm for a second then goes away.
it doesn't make the noise when settling back to idle. At first I thought it was the idler so I took it off and checked it. The bearing was dry but smooth,so I greased the ball race. This has made no difference.
I'm sure I have read somewhere that the pas pump can become noisy but haven't had time to investigate further.
does anybody have any ideas about where to look?
Im a little concerned about it.
cheers.

Alternator clutch pulley?
Mines was making a right racket and it took the tesioner with it causing my auxiliary belt to jump all over the place.

Replaced alternator pulley, tensioner and a new belt and alls well
