Story about returning to UK quarantine

I heard about someone coming back to the UK from a country that you have to quarantine for 14 days, during that 14 days he went to the pub and gave his details for the Track and Trace system. Later he gets a £1000 fine for breaching quarantine rules.
I think it is just a story, but who knows?

Unless you know that person directly I would say ******** scare mongering.

As far as I understand it details of people going to pubs/restaurants are not routinely shared with the authorities unless someone who went to that venue contracts covid.
