Stop coolant leaking changing sensor

Hi all

Need some advice. I need to change the coolant sensor on my A3 8p 2006. I took it off earlier and a load of coolant leaked out.

How do I change the sensor without the coolant leaking?

Do I have to completely drain it first or is there another way to do this?

Run the car to temp, checking the coolant level, top up where necessary
