Sticky roof storage box lid

When raising and lowering my roof, the storage box lid seems very reluctant to open. Sometimes it only opens a few inches and I have to lift it open myself. The roof then raises or lowers as usual. I have had to close the roof manually, once myself. Any ideas, please.
I read on one thread about doing a manual reset. How is that done?

Check your fluid level and pump.

Do I have to get to the motor to top it up?

Think so yes. System is meant to be sealed but its worth checking levels.
