As some of you know I like stripping things down see how they work and what it looks like in side and some times I post em up.
Yesterday I helped my dad fit a new stepper motor to his Touareg cause the old was fault and causing his drive train to clunk and pump going around bends when bumps.
Easy enough to do, just 5 bolts, 2 plugs and out it comes.
The strip is really easy as well, 3 torx bolts and it lifts apart.
Top cover removed showing the motor.
Pulled the motor/coil out and you see the brushes. Its not very shiny, so assuming that's our issues for this one being faulty.
End of the motor.
In side is a set of planetary gears.
And another set.
And a third.
That's it. its very basic.
I expected a lot more from something that's worth almost £500 and controls the centre diff lock.
O well.
That's the inside of a stepper motor or servo motor or gear box motor depending on what you read.
