STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL

Todays job is fitting cruise control, the only part im unsure of is the removal of the airbag. Not sure if it just pulls off from the steering wheel or if there are clips to release it. Any tips would be appreciated.
The steering wheel is 3 spoke design (2005 sportback)

Unbolts from rear of wheel, 2 covers to remove 1st.

as above, remove the airbag bolts, easier to turn the wheel 90 degrees on each side to get at the bolts. after bolts are removed, unplug the battery, then unplug airbag from the split ring, then job done, to remove the actual wheel you need a spline bit like a torx but with more fins on it if thats what there called.

Removal of the steering cowling (top and bottom) reveals 2 bolts?

No, the little caps are on the back of the wheel. Turn the wheel 90 degrees and you can see it at the top of the boss, facing the speedo. Prise it out , take out the screw, turn the wheel a half turn and take out the other one. It really is simple!

Removing the control box at the base of steering column is tricky. Requires a pin/allen key of the right size to push in a hidden clip.
Also be sure to NOT turn the clockspring. Tape it up before sliding off the spindle.
I followed a great how to thread.
Also coding required in two modules.

Thanks for all the help, cruise control fitted. But now having issues with it working correctley .won`t resume and set button appears not to be working.
Any ideas?

Did you code both modules using vcds?

Yes,had to change one module to 0000042 and the other one to 11463 ,is this correct?

If you have a steering module beginning with 1K0 then CC works in the 'alternative mode'. The SET button does nothing.

To activate pull towards you and down, once activated press upwards to increase speed and downwards to reduce speed. CC will disengage when clutch pedal or brake is pressed. To resume pull towards you again. You can manually disengage by flicking the stalk away from you and de-activate altogether by pushing away as far as possible.

You need a mid line steering module beginning with 8P0 for the SET button to work.
