Hi i was hoping someone with a bit of rack knowledge can help i am having all sorts of issues trying to resurrect my old tdi one of them being the power steering is completely dead. A garage fitted a new rack a few years ago and did not know how to program it so its been sat for a few years since unused. I have now hooked ups vcds to get the rack code but i cannot find any info on the number online if its a gen 2 or 3 rack. The number is EPS ZFLS K1.8 my car is a A3 2004 8p BKD all measuring blocks show error apart from angle sensor.

thanks in advance

If i was you i would call Audi parts given them the component number and ask if its a gen 2 or 3 , if it is an gen audi part

You need to visually check, software part no doesnt help to much usually on the racks.

If fitted few years ago, then should be a gen 3.

Also given 04 car, the gen 2 or 3 need an extra cable fitted.

The number after Kl. is power steering curve number. Gen1&2 had it only up to around 20, so your is definitely not gen3.
As to the trouble codes, you have the common one about the torque sensor. It can be broken sensor or, what is most likely, faulty control unit.

Checked part. no. you have gen2...
