My steering module has a a fault according to vag com. Its the N part number which supports cruise control. I'm not bothered about cruise, so can I fit one of the cheaper F or S modules?

Thanks for looking

That will be okay if you don't have dis either. Part number ending with F does not support DIS or cruise control.

The only DIS it has is the red pixel version, its a 53 reg car - I assume all model have that?

Can you cycle through different modes or is it just miles to empty?

Just checked and its got dis and on board computer. Last time i drove it it was telling me i was getting 200mpg so i think its ********!

It will show up to 200 mpg, for instance if you're showing down for a 30 mph limit with a closed throttle.

What is the fault that vcds is showing?

When we used vagcom at first it gave 01826 sensor for steering angle sensor - supply voltage terminal 30-35.
I then replaced the angle sensor and tried Vagcom again. This time it couldnt communicate with the steering control module.

It does have the esp light on as well as the flashing glowplug light.
We thought the steering module fault may be the cause of the esp light.
I replaced the brake light switch in the hope of killing the glowplug light, but no joy.

No worries, thanks for looking
You need to code the steering module, abs etc with vcds.
Here's a guide

Thanks for that.
Have ordered an F type module without cruise.
I suppose once I code everything and the body module (?) realises it doesnt have cruise it should be ok.

Regardless what you fit, it has to be coded to the car.

Just put the new module on and fired her up. Now got a flashing red brake warning light and steady amber abs light! As well as the esp and flashing glowplug.
Hope these disappear when we code the steering module.

They will, it's quite disconcerting all those flashing lights.

Too right. Had a major battle getting the airbag module bolted back in - one of the little screws stripped the first couple of threads and would not engage.

After fitting a new stalk to get cruise control in my 05 S4 cab, I had all the same warning lights on and a list of fault codes in VCDS, turned out it was just the battery low after me taking a while doing other things after with all interior lights on most of the day, I took car for a run and all warning lights cleared off the dash, I cleared all the stowed faults with VCDS and nothing since, no parts needed to be replaced, just a little charge of the battery and just to make you aware, it all started with the same single fault as yours "steering angle sensor - supply voltage terminal 30-35"

Thanks but we found that vcds couldnt communicate with the steering module even with the battery fully charged.

Well, after fitting the replacement module we tried to code it, with no success. Now got all manner of warning lights so going to take it to my local specialist.
Let you know how I get on.

Check the fuses first, you could save yourself a bit of cash if you find one has popped.

Think Ive managed to recode the steering wheel module, but the abs module is still showing and error-

Control module incorrectly coded.
The software coding is currently 00000, but I cant change it without the login code, which I dont know.

Help please

Have looked on youtube. Now know how to get the login and soft codes.
Now to try again!

All lights off now! Had to do a system function test after recoding the abs module and was about to follow the instructions on ross tech wiki, but the abs light went out after a few hundred metres and a right turn!
So pleased.
Thanks again to all those who replied. This has been a bit of a journey
