Starter motor screeching

Hi,
My 2001 audi 1.8t makes a loud short screech on start up which I'm assuming is the starter motor.
1. How easy or hard is this to replace and is there any guide to this anywhere.
2. Can I replace with a starter motor off a similar age Audi A3 1.8 for example.
3. I know I will have to disconnect the battery but I do not have the radio code, how easy is this to get and from where?
