Hi Guys

i bought a aftermarket sat nav for my audi a3 2010 and ive only just realised that my start /stop doses not work anymore.

ive been reading a few bits on here and everyone in the thread says for the start stop to work there must be low power ?

could it be that the satnav could be stopping this from activating the stop start ?

any thoughts would be much appreciated and anything that i could do to fix this would be great.

Kind Regards

Sounds like the sat navigation would be drawing more power meaning less power for the start stop system?

Thats what i was thinking to be fair. is there anyway you can change the voltage for it to work...... literally have no idea i suppose its set at that for a reason.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you pull the fuse for the sat nav to prove it's the root cause of the problem.

There are a number of things that have to be correct in order for start/stop to work. :racer:

Thanks RAF

where can i allocate the fuse ?

from when i installed it i think there was one on the back or am i talking nonsense ?

Cheers

If its an aftermarket unit, there is likely to be a fuse on the back wiring harness. Its also likely to be hooked up to the OEM harness, so there will be a fuse in the fuse box. Have a read here

You could also drive with it switched off, and see if that makes a difference?

As I said there are a number of things that need to be "aligned" for start stop to work correctly.

One of the main ones is the condition of your battery. If its not tip-top condition, the start/stop controller doesn't allow the car engine to stop. Other things such as engine temperature, outside temperature, power draw (including heater/rear window etc) are all taken into account.

It may be worth giving a shout out for anyone in your area with VAGCOM to take a look and see if its throwing any start/stop fault codes.

Hi RAF

just went to halfords and they tested the battery and they said the reading was " the battery is fine but it just says it needs charging " ???? this was while the ignition was turned off.

i tried it with the sat nav turned off and funnily enough regardless of it being turned off it kept saying on the computer screen near the steering wheel that the volume was at 8. flashing.

i think the next thing i will try is digging out my radio keys and pulling the head unit out and trying the fuse/ take out idea....

Thanks again

"Fine but just needs charging" is not necessarily a good sign, especially if you have just driven there with the battery fitted to the car....

One of the conditions that Start/Stop looks for is the status of the battery. If the system thinks the battery voltage is too low to restart the car, then it disables the start/stop sequence.

Try the fuse on the satnav and see how you get on. If it makes no difference, then I would suggest going to a good auto centre and having them do a load test on the battery. Halfords are definitely not specialists in this area, so I would take their assessment with a pinch of salt.

im so confused.....

last night i was driving along and i had a warning light come up saying my back number plate bulb is out.

next thing you know im at a T junction and my start stop kicks in....... this was whilst my sat/nav was on!!!!

so everything is all sound then next minute the warning light goes off and once again im at a T junction and the stop start dose not work

So F****** Annoying.

Have you scanned the car for errors with VCDS or similar? I bet something has been logged for this already.
