Stage 2+ Dyno readings.... Hmmmm any input?

Rolling roads are a real lottery.

Whilst it's not accurate, the "bum" dyno tells a lot about the way a car is performing, and whether or not something has made a difference.

I have no doubt that the current revision APR maps are offering increased power and torque over some of the maps available, but you also have to remember that even if one map turns out 400bhp at peak rpm, compared to another that "only" produces 360bhp,that this amounts to around 10% at peak rpm.

Torque is far more important in the mid range, and again,APRs maps seem to do well here, likely down to their timing strategies.
I know they were VERY interested in Revos timing settings a few years ago.
Apr do seem to be doing really well lately. The times people are getting on 1/4 mile is proving that.
But then you have custom map. And alot of people seem to be loving them as well lately. Especially Ricks (Unicorn motorsport) and R techs custom maps

Agreed.

The shame of all of this to my mind is that Revo have just left the 8P on the back burner, when once they were at the forefront of mapping it.

As I've said before,I'm not knocking the product,as it served me well for several years, but they are rather forgetting where the bulk of their current users are.

OK...APR.....I was never a fan of their marketing methods previously, which I and many others felt did their products a serious disservice, but the new management seems to have knocked things into shape a bit,as well as pushing forwards on their core products, which is what you would expect from a venture capital buyout.

Custom maps....while I was with Revo,I did consider custom mapping, but there was little reason to move until other things were sorted out.
At the same time as the exhaust and inlet manifolds were sorted, along came the much bigger turbo, and a need for something a little off the mainstream, and Nortech pointed me in the direction of Syvecs, and Storm Developments, who were doing the beta-testing of their TFSi ECU.

That requires specialist setup and mapping experience, but has more than returned the investment, with a big power hike, and even bigger torque increase.

I would say that for anyone wanting that bit more,go custom, and for anyone wanting the ultimate,go Syvecs.

I used to have doubts about custom map thinking its not like revo and apr, not branded. It may damage car etc. I went for revo as before i got my map done alot of posts made by guys on forum stated revo are good. However being on here for a little while has shown that with custom map, for half the price you could get a good remap done and if you have dsg box, you could even that done for a good price also.

Like anything, there are good and bad custom maps, but the good guys like Rick etc will always float to the top,and be recognised for their work.

Im gonna be seriously disappointed if my car is only producing 330 odd bhp from a Revo Stage 2+ map to be totally honest.

I see what you're saying.

For the most part, their Stg2+ map usually makes around 360-370bhp at best, and most people seem to get those figures.
The most important figures for acceleration and driveability are midrange torque, and how flat the torque curve is.

Most of us may not notice loss of top end power,as the K04 is pretty much done by around 6500rpm or thereabouts, and is down on torque well before then.

I was disappointed for too long, chasing dyno figures none stop giving myself a brain ache. Ask Julian and marshy lol. But for now I would rather get my car sorted and running properly before anything else.

Alex what torque would you say should be minimum on a stage 2+ s3, whether its manual or dsg?

I can only give average figures, and what mine achieved on a Revo Stg2+ map.

Mine and the average were pretty much the same at 360bhp @ 6000rpm and around 360lbs @ 4550rpm

The GTX3076 eventually turned out 440lbs @ 5500rpm whereas the current one turns out more torque at 7500rpm than the GTX did at it's peak.

Would a manual and a dsg show the same torque roughly or is dsg normally producing more?

But how many times have we seen a perfectly working car (according to the owner, including myself) on the same map, jump from 1 dyno to another and the owner's left disappointed?
My Ed30 went from APR to Revo (due to complications) and got the same power output, it's down fractionally on power but 3 years later and mid service, it's still kicking out the same power today. Smoke and mirrors I tell you :asskicking:

Dyno lottery.

As long as you accept that you'll never get the same figures, and as long as they're roughly in the ballpark,it's fine.

I knew from previous cars that the S3 felt as if it had around 500bhp before it's trip to Storm, but was working hard to make that, whereas now it all feels smooth and much stronger.

AMD's dyno had always felt roughly correct from past experience,so I know it's reasonable, but again, rarely if ever the exact same readings twice,as everything changes.

Compkiler i know this is a really old thread but im in need of help and no one seems to know what the problem is with my car even though on logs everything looks perfectly fine but car Audi TTS 2010 DSG with all stage 2+ hardware and software is only putting out same power figures as your old s3 330bhp and 340ft, I see that you managed to get your car sorted and was running good numbers.

Can you please update me on what was actually wrong with your car or the tune that was causing your car to produce such low numbers similar to stage 1+?

I cant be 100% sure but it could be down to your DSG gearbox on the Rollers. Does it feel good and powerful on the road driving it?

Only saying that as some of the older members might remember AlexWill (I think that was his members name) had the same issue with his at the rolling road day at AMD tuning and he had kind of the same mods as yourself, he was only achieving low 300 figures on the dyno when it should of been in the high 300's,
On the road his car felt like a train. Im sure there is a thread on here about it will have to go back a few years and take a look for you to see how he sorted it. Im sure it was just his car/DSG didn't like the dyno haha

Yes it feels fast from 0-80mph then it feels dead, done a 100-200 was 12seconds which is what stage 1 puts out so its deffo slow. Btw do you know what boost the k04 can hold at top end 6-7k? Atm im holding 1.2-1.3 by redline
