SQ5 SQ5 VS Q5 3.0 TDI IS IT WORTH IT?

So looking on autotrader the prices between Sq5 and Q5 3.0 tdi are basically the same...for some reason tax is cheaper on an SQ5.

    But insurance is £300 more.

Wondering if an Sq5 is worth it over a 3.0 tdi Q5?

You do tend to get more spec - electric memory seats for example compared to a Q5.

I want a low mileage car to last me 3-4 years.

I generally drive lazy I like to waft along but sit high up or I'd get an A8.

I guess a Q5 3.0 TDI would be great but a bit worried about DPF problems and S-Tronic problems with a remap if I had the DPF removed.

Up here they are making all the motorways 50mph average speed cameras ie "low pollution zones" like the local 3 way highway which means the DPF doesn't cycle on the trip into the city anymore. It's a concern.

Really are you sure the prices are similar?
Theres always price variation on any model, but average them out and I would say the SQ5 is a fair bit higher pro rate.
I'd say SQ5 all day long if you can afford the extra.

I just moved over from a S3 8P Sportback in May of this year as I’ve got a little one and needed a bit more room and haven’t looked back.

SQ5 definitely worth it over the normal 3 litre tdi in my opinion.

Honestly, most here will know and are now way bored with me saying that for us the 2016 SQ5, after 9-months of ownership/use remains an amazingly good piece of road going machinery. Most will know I've had the SQ5 itch since that Audi dealership day in 2015, and since then have driven both Q5 and SQ5 in ALL 'types' but the 2016 SQ5 remains for us unbeatable; so much so our TT and RS3 have less than 50-miles use (each) since the SQ5 arrived, the darn thing just seems top do it all.

The 2016 SQ5 TDi, my choice bar none (including S8/RS6/5/4 etc) is amazing on the roads you describe, both 'quick' and 'fast' if driven as intended: like we're just back from a 60-mile jaunt to Royal Stoke for some Radio Gaga therapy for RS3copilot and our darn thing has returned 38.1mpg overall and 43.5 one way - and just nothing gets by (we have had it in the sub 15 overall mpg mind as well!!! :shutup2:): we may be in our 70's but, well, we're always ready for a laugh :racer:

Go drive the rest and then go find a 2016 SQ5; lots about at silly prices. Go evaluate against something 4x the price at yer local Audi dealer, like an RS3/4/5/6/7 whatever and I defy you to not fined an SQ5 'interesting' [IMG]

Wouldn't swap our 2016 SQ5 TDi for any of the afore mentioned... :thumbs up:

Just picked up a 2016 SQ5. OMG! Amazing fun. Launch control had my wife in stitches with laughter. Pulling from 60 hits 110mph before you’ve had time to think. This is a crazy fun vehicle to drive. Love it

If you're thinking of remapping a 3.0 that'll push the insurance up a bit so will maybe even out the running costs. I've got a mapped 3.0tdi A4 cabby and an SQ5 plus, the Sq5 is standard but is still noticeably quicker than the cabby.

Given the choice I'd definitely take the SQ5 over the 3.0, it sounds better, looks better, has a tiptronic box and the engine is a peach. The 'plus' models at 340bhp/700nm seem to retail for about the same as the 326bhp/650nm models, performance wise almost identical but the plus includes some extra kit and a sports diff, which I love. The last of the MK1 diesels, the plus SE, had just about every 'extra' as standard equipment (if that makes sense) and would probably be my weapon of choice.

The only negatives I can think of are, the brakes could be better (new aftermarket pads sort this I believe), headlights need better bulbs, the door mirrors are far too big (although you get used to that) and the aluminium dash trim is very fragile, ideally try sourcing one with carbon or piano black.

It's the best all rounder I've owned and I plan to keep it for a while yet.

Following this closely as I'm looking to buy a used SQ5, so thank you!

Is there a manifest difference between the 2015 & 2016 models?

As someone looking to flip again in 3/4 years....would the Plus variant be worth the increased tax & insurance in the long run in your view?

    Again, thanks!

The SQ5's changed very slightly from 2015 to 2016 in that the original 313bhp version was made euro 6 compliant with the my16 year changes that came in towards the last 1/3rd of 2015 and then subsequently increased to 326bhp which makes little to no difference in reality..... @45bvtc :whistle2:
The SQ5 plus came with 340bhp which again I doubt you would tell much but more importantly came with the sport diff and a host of optional extras as standard.
Spec, colour and price would be the biggest attraction to me but I would lean towards a plus if that was deciding factor.

If you need the Sales and Specification Brochure, Gene, then PM me with your email address and I'll send.

The SQ5 Plus IS a better spec but whether you'd see/feel/need the difference in day to day driving here in the UK is doubtful - for sure I did not 'feel' the 'need' to go for a 'Plus' although I heard all the sales clatter of how better it was but 'on-the-road' trials just didn't get it, just saying....

PS: rarely if ever take our RS3 and/or TT out motoring. For us, our 2016 SQ5 does everything better - and that without a "sport diff," whatever, lol!

I would go for the sq5 insurance wasn’t that much different between the two. I wanted a sq5 plus but couldn’t find the colour combo and price. I do have a 326 which still generates a big smile when it roars

SQ5 TDI - I've had two. More character, bi-turbo engine is fun, fuel economy is similar to the 3.0 TDI/Stronic, you said you like a lazy driving style so the Tiptronic transmission will suit you perfectly whilst the lack of properly decent stoppers that match the available performance is unlikely to trouble you. You'll be very happy.
