Speed Camera Detection

Thanks mate that's a help!
Works great and for a much cheaper price

ALSO... I just realised you'll have a FL rather than PFL... Someone on the thread mentioned an audible tone being possible with some tweak / messing around... although I'm not sure if that was for non-UK cars or FL cars only... worth looking into! It's in that thread somewhere I'm sure in the last couple of pages

I'm sure I've popped the audible tone alert on to sisters A3 - there's an option within the MMI for this...will need to check next time I see her

Dropped a text to sister to check and she gets the pop up and beep tone to alert her of cameras

Oh that's great will look into it!

Guessing I will need to pay to have the sat nav activated first.

I use one of these, which lives in my arm reset:

New to these systems but does this detect scatter from mobile guns etc?
How well does that work in the armrest? I have been put off by detectors as I don't like cables around the dash but if this works well in the armrest then I'd be very tempted :)

The unit works off a GPS database, updates are available daily and cover most of the counties you can think of. Has three different warning volume levels so the armrest can be closed / down. Has no issues with keeping a GPS signal also however it can take 5 mins to establish said signal.

This is not a detector.

When I was researching around the internet most people said that if you have a "detecting unit", by the time it alerts you you have already been caught.

Interesting @DJAlix. Seen those on Amazon with good reviews.

Do you just leave it plugged in to a USB charger I guess and it auto powers and shuts down?

For the money its not bad at all. It has a battery in it but I just leave it plugged in to one of my USB sockets in the armrest. The car power shuts down a few mins after locking (FL), then once the internal battery runs out the unit dies but starts straight up again without issue when the doors are next unlocked. It only leaves my armrest when I remember / want to do a database update.

Nice! Might check one out from amazon since they have a friendly returns policy

Accurate and free database updates, directional notifications, configurable distance alerts and even trip recording if you want. For £35 you can't go wrong. Once thing I forgot to mention tho is that the memory is a little on the small side. You can have all of the UK and a couple of other countries loaded without issue but not the whole of europe at the same time.

Thanks for the mini-review

Sounds great to be honest for £35... Like I say saw it previously but I think what put me off was someone saying it needs to be on / near the windscreen

I think (haven't looked yet again) it does all sorts of cameras also? SPECS etc?

Memory thing won't be an issue for me, UK alone is fine

Also can you turn off things like accident blackspots and mobile zones? They could get annoying

Strangely quite a few bad reviews on amazon, more 1 star than there are 5 star

Any chance you could have a read and see if you've had any of those issues please?

If you use your phone in your car, TomTom do a free app that I've been satisfied with so far...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.speedcams.android.map

I don't know if there's an Apple/iOS equivalent

Forgot to add, benefits include
- don't have to remember to update a database
- will run 'over the top' of a stanav or other app like Google Maps, Waze, Spotify...
- can be configured not to warn you unless you're actually approaching a camera above it's speed limit (knows the speed limit)
- can warn you when you're over the speed limit regardless of cameras - good should you want to change your speeding behaviour

It's not 100% (but what its?)
- I've noticed a few of the speed limits (not the cameras, so far) are wrong
- You prob need to be using/powering your phone in your car already (for music/satnav etc), though it will work off the phone's battery
- It DOES use data, but not a lot (depending on the mode you use it in)
- Doesn't seem to audibly alert if I speed over the limit only between the app's trigger distance and the actual camera (i.e. accelerating), though the popup always appears. (I choose no audio alterts unless I'm over the speed limit)

Not a brilliant set of reviews on Amazon, but obviously your experience has been good :)
Amazon
Owned the K2 and since changing to a FL A3 I changed to a K3 also, never had an issue to be honest.

Will have a look later tonight and see if I have experienced anything thats been reported. Will also pop out and grab the unit from the car and load up its software and take some screen caps.

I use a cheetah c550 which is really good and plugs in to the 12 v socket, free updates ect. I have it on the dashboard but occasionally I put it in the armrest and it still picks up the cams. Lot more expensive though than the K3 which does look very good.

Had a fast read through a good number of the 1 star reviews on Amazon, 21, and have never experienced any of the issues myself... well other than slow GPS satellite acquisition and the odd false alarm, maybe for an old camera. Been using Inforad for approx 4 years now.

I've had one of those for some time with no issues.

Exactly, correct. Only really good for static positions.

You will be pleased to know, the sat nav is standard in all S3's.

Got one built into my dash cam :) Also gives you the option of pushing a button as you pass the mobile ones to store/remind you the next time you're in the area.
