When you have light/small modifications, who do people find the cheapest?

I have been very surprised to find Admiral significantly cheaper on my A3 with remap and tinted windows versus specialists like AF/Sky and Chris Knott?

I found Admiral were x with Sky being 90% more expensive, AF 60% (but not including half of what i asked for..), and Chris Knotts renewal being 10% more than Admiral, and CK being 25% more than last year (Despite more NCB/no claims etc).

Is there any significant reason?

Most "Normal" insurers don't have so much of an issue with a remap and other smaller mods. It's no surprise to me that more mainstream insurers are cheaper than the specialists. As soon as you start with brakes , suspension , turbos etc you won't get a quote off the "normal" insurers and will be left with the specialist ones. I use Adrian Flux and it probably costs me 50-60% more to insure my car with all the mods declared compared to a standard 3.0 TDI.
