I had the same setup on my Ibiza Cupra!
When I broke it for spares I tried fitting the SMF to my friends passat - it didnt go anywhere near due to the starter motor teeth being on the other side for the transverse engine.
i have a leon cupra and when the dual mass went on this i decided to change it for a luk unit
which is designed to change the 1.8t back to a smf
the flywheel is different and the throw of the clutch cylinder is extra long to compensate for the dmf
the only thing i wouldnt do this on is a diesel because of there nature as a rattling vibrating mass of iron
