should i use and engine flush before replacing the oil?

No .

Change oil and inside a week change , inc filter change again .

so the suggestion is to change oil twice for every oil change? why not just change oil every 3 months instead?

No just when the car is new to you , then 6 months if you can .

oh okay - so just because you don't really know or trust the history.

out of interest, is there problems with some garages drawing the oil from the top of the engine or the dipstick or whatever instead of the sump plug?
