Hi guys,
being relatively new to the site was just looking for some advice. I have a 03/2000 A4 1.8T QS which is nearing the 60,000 mark. Should I maintain the full dealer history for servicing which I have done to date or should I be looking at an independent Audi specialist for repairs/servicing. Will it make much difference when I sell the car or is it worthwhile paying the exorbitant rates at the dealers? On that note if its the case can anyone recommend an independent specialist in my area - Kilmarnock which is 25 miles south of Glasgow for all those who are scratching their head thinking where ? ? ?

Now that my A4 is out of warranty I have no intention of using any approved dealer for servicing. It's too expensive, standards of work are generally pretty poor and they always seem to find 'extras'

The work required for all services is well documented and there is no reason why it can't be carried out by any half decent garage.

Totally agree with Anito. I have been using an independent Audi specialist (Autotechnik) for over 2 years for both our Audi's and I calculate they have saved me over £1,000 over using main dealer, and that doesn't include all the things the stealer would have replaced that didn't need replacing. In terms of the worth of FASH, are you really willing to buy into that scam?
It's blackmail and anyone buying your car should appreciate that you have been sensible in opting out. Even if it does devalue the car slightly it's nothing compared to the money you will have saved on servicing. Audi dealers aren't really into servicing cars that are out of warranty, they are too used to just replacing parts until a problem is solved leaving you to foot the bill. Southampton Audi actually charged me £35 +VAT to replace 2 dashboard bulbs (don't get me started....)

I agree with the guys above but I tend to get my specialist to do all the problems I have outside of servicing and get Audi to do the basic's just for the stamp that way I save money and it still has a full service record. But I would if you still have it get Audi to do the 80k service for the record.

I only allow, will allow them to change oil filter and oil and things like poolen filter and things. and inspect the car other than that nothing.

Mine's just out of its Approved Used warranty, so I'm moving away from the dealer network. With one or two very rare exceptions, they really do stink! Mine's going into an independent workshop on Monday to have the airbag circuit checked. Might get them to do the MAF as well. Local firm, been going nearly 40 years, and two minutes from the house.
