just contacted my local independent for price for an inspection service which is due at the same time as the oil service , told them I didn't need air filter or pollen filter and got a quote back for £32 , slightly confused as I thought the oil got changed even on an inspection service if the two didn't coincide. so called them back and explained it was due an oil service at the same time and they came back with a quote of £169 which I thought was damn reasonable , question is does the inspection only service only cost as little as £32 and what do they actually do for that , surely not ?.

£32 inspection sounds like to me check fluids, brakes, tyres and wipers and maybe see if there is any play in suspension components.
audi still doing the all in one warranty/service/mot/roadside for £30 a month if your car qualifies.

I was always under the impression that the inspection service was the equivalant to a full service as opposed to just an oil change hence every 2 years

On the MMI for fixed servicing it’s oil change then inspection so yeah inspection should be the big one with filters and brake fluid etc

If you want a benchmark, I’ve just had a quote for a basic fixed interval inspection service and oil change from my usual well-respected Indy. £206 inc. vat.

Quoted from other garages anything up to £302 . Even halfrauds asking £289 so was a surprise to find independent specialist quoting £160 ish

Well if they do the job I won't be paying any more than what they quoted me .
How old is your car?
Some things like brake fluid and coolant changes won’t be due till 3rd year and coolant is like 5 years so it could be just a quick check over the car.

Car is a 2015 with 52k . brake fluid and plugs were done 2 years ago by the same independent so they know it's history

The independent I use does an inspection as standard no matter if it's just a basic oil service. He laso updates the online record as well. Think he charged for just over £200 when i had the S3.

So should be due next brake fluid change at least. If I remember it’s 3 years for first then every 2 years after. That at indi will be around £60-80 on its own, an hour labour £40-50 and brake fluid will be around £20-30 depending on type/brand.
could be the receptionist got wrong end of the stick. As they are less clued up compared to a mechanic

That's correct, my BF was done at 3 years and is due again this year @ 5 years.
