Hey guys, I did read a (rather comprehensive) thread on service cost differences but Audi Hatfield just quoted me around £700 for a cambelt and water pump change! Is this just a little silly? Labour costs accounted for £450 roughly.

Could anyone recommend some garages around Hertfordshire?

Many thanks!

Main dealers will rip you off with the labour charges, just go to a Audi specialist who will charge half the price for labour...

fontain are decent, based in iver.

I paid just over £700 at the end of last year for cambelt and water pump change from Aylesbury Audi but this also included an annual service plus £80 odd for refitting a piece of external trim :(
They quoted me just under £400 on the phone for water pump and cambelt alone so looks like they are trying to overcharge you.

The belt, water pump and tensioners only comes to about £50 iirc, go to an independent and you should be able to get the job done for 300ish

i jut got my cambelt, water pump, snake belt, haldex, and major service for 600 quid, so u need a specialists.

Get along to http://www.vagtech.co.uk/

They will be half the price of the stealers and also look after your car ;)

I have been to them with all my Ibiza's & the S3 :rockwoot:

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'm actually looking to change up to the 1.8 Turbo but figured I'd get the cambelt and water pump done before it goes off to its new owner, always good to know where a good garage is for future reference.

While I'm at it, no point making a new thread, any pointers for looking for a good turbo? Specifically when they reach the 50 - 70k mark?

labour is only £100 to £150 tops, well i paid £112 last year on my old car. so on the audi i reckon £200 max inc parts and labour.

Its big money at main dealers. I'm having the following done:

Cambelt and waterpump replaced with all necessary tensioners etc.
40k AVS service.
Haldex filter and oil replaced.
Spark plugs and air filters replaced.
MOT.
Genuine VAG cruise control fitted.

All for just under £900 at APS in the next month.

Audi Norwich wanted £550 for the service, £350 for the cambelt and a further £100 for the Haldex, + £50 for MOT.

I can drive to Brackley, get APS to do the work. Work from my laptop all day at their garage. Then drive home safe in the knowledge my car has been worked upon by real experts, and not 2nd year trainee's.
I look to save around £170 (well, £130 after petrol) and get cruise control fitted, for what is effectivley free. (that will come in very handy for my drive to the Ring in April)

)

listers audi in worcester replaced my cambelt and tensioners for £350 on my first A3 1.8T after a bit of bartering... give it a go?? just say you can't understand how VW or skoda will do the same job and charge a lot lot less on labour..

any idea whats the normal price to get cruise control fitted in?

They (APS) charge £150. Not sure what Audi would charge, but I'd guess it would be £200+
