Looked in the C5 forum.. could see no model specific technical area..
General question? Well it is Technical but my vehicle specific...

I have an old S6 2002. 4.2
Not looked for sensors yet.... BUT
Car in garage for MOT..
Failed on headlight alinement...
Should it have self level sensors?
Cannot recall it ever moving light level on start up? Even from new.. maybe it did!
If none fitted I presume no level motors in headlights?
If fitted with sensors...may require even more work to get the sensors and motors working via vcds..
Knew the manual adjustment did nothing and it was a little low. Passed OK last year..
I loaded boot with two extra wheels.
LOL.. forgot this year.
Need to resolve..
Anyone have this model?

Have you tried to scan it with VCDS?

Did you had peak inside the lamps for leveling motors?

Are your lamps xenons?

Is there a separate adjustment control unit near the steering wheel?

Cheers for response!

Not sure that MOT tester knows Audi HIDs..
Said headlight washers did not work..
I asked if he had switched the lights on..

Said they work now...

They are HID lights..the handbook says..

Dynamic headlight range control.
.....the headlights adapt to the load being carried when the ignition is switched on.

Not sure if I remember that happening.. definately does not do it now!

Maybe Vcds used to cancel self levelling and fix headlights at setting and csncel error message at some stage in the last 195000 miles! Has been regularly serviced...

I know the feature on SWMBOs mini cooper..

I know the manual adjustment cannot be operated.. I have tried...so I maybe I broke it!

Not sure what the peak inside the lamps for levelling motors should look like..not seen this as obvious.

No adustment controls at all on the dash..
There was not a warning light to indicate
"Headlight range control defective.."

They have passed the MOT since 2012..
BUT this year.. failed..
I do accept RH headlight was too low and could not be adjusted up by me..
I also read you have to use vag com or vcds to set the level position if levelling motors ARE fitted..
When I get the car back I will hunt for sensors front and back on passenger side!

Just wondered if any other forum poster had a
C5 avant 2002 4.2l S6 with HIDs...
Will post findings!

Maybe a very early car with HIDs.. they were very good when new...but now need attention..

Well...
Answered my own question..
Found sensors would be on passenger side...
None!

2002 does not have self levelling sensors despite what it sppears to say in the generic handbook... or headlight motors and they cannot be retro fitted. The part number of the lamp appears to be specific for non self levelling and the lamp enclosure would need changing.
Will repair/ replace/ set them unloaded and see what loaded looks like.
Apologies for the naive question.

Also found it says it has three electric fans and no viscous fan...will have to check that in Etka and on the car.. that does have me fooled!
I guess removed to gain as much bhp as possible..
