I may well go with a tracker solution but need to investigate options. I don't doubt that after-market solutions like the TRACKER Cat 5 are superior to the one Audi use but I need to clarify the warranty situation as I'm not risking that. There's also the issue of what happens on a PCP deal if and when you return/trade-in the car. Will they complain if the tracker can't be removed?

They wont complain, and the next owner with probably be thanking you!

I think most offer a service to remove/transfer it when you sell the car.

Vw w few probs with the DAB, hope this helps, cheers Mark

Thanks Mark,

I had an early Blackvue 2 channel fitted and that did cause DAB issues on my A7, but it was fixed by a replacement cable.

The latest DR650S on the S7 shouldn't (?) be causing DAB issues as they changed out the connecting cable to a fully screened version.

Cheers,
John.

Notable that TRACKER don't. I'd be very wary of this tbh as I can see a situation where the dealer wants rid of it before the car is handed back but TRACKER won't remove it nor even tell you where it is.

I'm also concerned that none of these tracker companies clearly state anything about warranties. They have vague "approved by loads of manufacturers" rubbish but nothing concrete.

How will Audi ever know it has a tracker? These things are very well hidden, they obviously have to be, otherwise they can be easily removed. Tracker generally won't tell you where it is.
We had a guy who thought he knew better than tracker, he found the device and moves it's location. The vehicle was stolen, the tracker was removed and chucked on the hard shoulder of the M3, took us ages to find the dam thing, it's the size of a small mars bar.

Plenty of new car owners out there, who have tracker fitted, they just don't know about it, until the car is stolen. Tracker will then activate it at he request of the Police, if the new owner pays the fee (usually the insurance company covers this, as they want the car returned)
I've gone a bit off topic

I've had my BlackVue DR750LW-2CH in both my A3 and S3, Dad has his 2ch bullet BlackVue in his A4... never any issues, touch wood.

A) They have to be powered from somewhere so a couple of additional wires to the fusebox or battery are obvious if you work on the same cars day in / day out or know what the tracker wiring looks like.
B) People by nature are lazy & will fit things in the easiest available place.
C) There aren't that many vacant voids in a modern car which limits the choice of location.
D) A colleague once asked me to guess the tracker location on an Escort Cosworth when they were fitting an upgraded one... Thinking about loom locations & where I would place it for best antenna reception etc I made my prediction (I won't say where) & that's where it was (shame we hadn't bet on it!).

TBH you're better off with a factory fitted / built in system such as Ferrari/Maserati use as then there are no additional looms / easily removed or located tracker units.

I was told this when I paid £1045 for mine at Audi, had a call back yesterday which informed me that they aren't prepared to remove it!
That's rubbish mate, hence why I always get it in writing...no come back then.

Yep I agree, they tried to sell me some nonsense about once the VIN is in the tracker it can't be removed. Pointless arguing once they've decided! The car was there for 2 days when they fitted it, dread to think of the labour to change it.

You'll be fine, nothing to worry about :)

LOL

I had my tracker installed before I took delivery. Audi let them do it in the dealership premises. No issues with warranty. Main thing for me with an S3 is to have a garage. They are targetted cars (I've heard), however even though they are one of the most stolen cars in the UK, it is 1 in every 100. You probably wouldn't win on a 100/1 horse bet! Just enjoy it and make sure you get GAP insurance in the event of the worse. I originally **** myself about such things. Now nearly 3 years in and loving the car still. As time goes on, you will learn to chill. Just be a bit sensible too about where you park, people following you home etc.......sounds like overkill but you can't be too careful.

Let us have some pics of the car when you get it (and turn off the GPS locator tags :grinning:)
