My neighbour came over this morning having seen 2 guys on my drive crouching down looking at the RS3 (v dodgy with hoods type) we think its the wheels they are after but he thinks he saw them getting my reg no... Going to improve security etc as no doubt they will be back. Just wondered if any of you had the same problems and what you did to improve security on the car? It's got a wheel lock on it but just wondered if you guys had changed the lock nuts or know if this is a issue.? Will pop to police station later to let them know, but its just that feeling of you know they will be back. Love the car but hate the fact it attracts low life's like this.

Its always a concern but heres my advice and view..

If they want it they will do there best to try and get it.. I agree lets not make that easy for them just make sure you and your family are well out of the way. By this I mean don't hide the keys, leave them in a position where they are not reachable from a letterbox but certainly if someone breaks in they are in a position where they are in and out as quickly as possible and not coming to find you to help you find them.

These cars are insured, hopefully you have GAP insurance also so at the end of the day if its nicked you will get your money back. Fit a tracker and you are going to potentially get a stolen/abused car back, not something i'd want.

I have a camera on my car that records 24/7, mainly so if the kids in my street damage the car I have some come back but i'm sure if it was nicked the footage might help the fuzz.

they are probably spotters, they will pass the information onto someone who will steal it

Well they can try to but gonna make it as hard as I can for them. Yeah have Gap insurance. And yeah if they really want it they can have it not risking my family for a car. I just hate this about the world you have something nice that you love and people want it. Scumbags. Going to get CCTV system installed ASAP.

Buy a pit bull dog or 2 leave them near the car ;).....

I think these are a pretty good idea Anti Ram Raid Security Steel Telescopic Posts 'Fast Delivery' · Barriers Direct
Also, crims take down plate details or actually steal the plates from cars so they can clone cars they have already stolen. So if a Police car gets behind another RS3 they have already stolen it doesn't show on the system.

If you tell the local Police they can put an 'intel' marker on your resgistration to say that someone was seen acting suspiciously around you car. The only thing with that is you may get stopped by the Police so they can check it is the correct car.

Hope that makes sense

Pentagon glass and an aftermarket car alarm can help prevent theft also a tracker.

Tracker is a must have. I only have a normal A3 and an A6 for work but both have on-demand trackers. Helps me sleep easier at night knowing where they are :)

Agree with others about an upgraded alarm and pentagon glass. There are some alarms that offer geo-fence. When somebody gets to close it gives off an audible warning alarm. I think any "criminal" who hears that wouldn't want to risk being caught.

Also thinking of a remap so you can use the security feature that most offer. Car will turn on but won't be able to drive! Doesn't stop them picking it up but makes it a lot harder!

CCTV is a great idea. Do some research and don't go cheap though. No point getting a system that doesn't give a good picture. Some really cool systems out there that have a ANPR system which logs registration numbers as they pull up on your drive.

Hopefully it's all overkill and you won't need to rely on them but will offer you that piece of mind you want.

Thanks guys! Busy and expensive day...just put the locking wheel nuts on it that were suggested, so they will have a shock if they come back! Doesn't look as good as the black covers don't fit, but still security more important ATM and went and invested in a pretty high tech CCTV system to be installed tomorrow alongside better outside lights on the drive. Have a dog so he will be by the door from now on...Guess I can't do much more. Police also informed so they have all the details.... Just hate that I have to spend money to try and protect something that I love and can afford and these thugs think they have some divine right to take.

I know how you feel , when i had cctv on my rs turbo many years ago i caught 2 guys trying to get in for the bucket seats ,they never came back ,and after a while a got a council lock up :) i had nearly every deterent on the car ...but cctv worked out the best ...

I know it doesn't work for everyone but I would say out of sight, out of mind, mine lives in the garage now, which has an electric door and alarm, plus CCTV. They really are scum :(

Wish I had a garage to put it in! Guess will just have to hope what I have done is enough.

I set the standard install alarm off whilst washing the car with a pressure washer - it's pathetically quiet and only persists for about 20 seconds...

You have to say that Audi are certainly consistent with their use of a digital watch alarm down a well as a car alarm.lol

Annoyingly, the reason why most car alarms that are fitted as standard and some that are aftermarket are so quiet is due to some stupid law / regulation.

I can't remember the exacts but they can only go off for a certain amount of time and can only go up to a certain dB level. This is due to noise pollution and people get annoyed when the car isn't disarmed. You'd think the whole point of the alarm is to draw attention to whatever is happening to it!!

There are ways around it though :ninja:

I have a friend looking at this solution for his Aventador, proper Thunderbirds!

The following happened many years ago (late 1980's) to a family friend ...

He advertised his Escort RS2000 for sale, a couple of blokes came to see it but didn't buy it - he thought nothing of that. Another person came to buy it and put a deposit on it to pick it up at the weekend. The car was always locked in his garage with his daily driver Orion parked behind it ...

Anyway he gets a call early one morning from the Police asking where his car is, he says 'in my locked garage'. They tell him, no it isn't we have pulled two fellas over driving it along the A64. Luckily for him the police thought this car looked unusual being driven at that time of night and randomly pulled it over to find it had been stolen, hence the call to the family friend. He had to go and pick up the car, the only damage being to the steering lock. He later identified the culprits as the people who had come to see the car. They had broken into his Orion on the drive, rolled it out the way, broken into his garage, and the RS2000, hotwired it and driven it away - and this was on a housing estate not in the country ... So a pretty slick operation - but yes you could probably get into an old 1980's Fords with a lolipop stick ...

The good news was he got the car back, the sale went through and he was honest and told the buyer what happened and only had to replace the steering lock - he worked at a Ford garage which made things easier and explains the Ford fetish he had.

Well by this time tomorrow I will have a drive with a light that should dazzle anyone who walks on it and a full CCTV system that I can also access via my iPhone when away from the house... my House will look like Fort Knox! Looking into having a pole fitted too. First issue with security I have had in the 6mths I have had the RS3. Hope the money spent is worth it!

number 1 rule!
keep your doors on the house locked and the keys for the car hidden and secure!
it is a fact these days that scum are just breaking into houses instead to get the keys!
it is easier for them!

I can imagine it must be annoying and frustrating that you have to even consider and then fund this additional security to protect your property - hopefully it will prove to be good insurance generally though.
