Seat Toledo 1.9tdi mk3

So got a 1.9tdi. Came up with engine management fault maf sensor. Cleaned sensor and cleared fault was good for few weeks.
Unplugged sensor and ran good. Better acceleration and no smoke. Plugged back in and mpg dropped and smoked a lot.
So order new maf from tps. Fitted. No faults no more but smoke back.

Any ideas?

Have you reset adaptations on engine ECM (this will impact smoke limitation)?
