[/IMG]Hi

I scraped the underside of my car on a high kerb and noticed this little piece dangling down.

Anyone know what it is?

Just looks like a cap! If it was something crucial I'd expect it to be metal with a thread on it.

Will it reach here?:

Didn't reach there.

I jacked up the car, gave the cap a tug and the whole thing came away!

It does look like a cap of some sort though.

Yeah I see what it is now, I thought the long piece of rubber was a cord attached to a bung but it isn't, it's just where the seal has broken off and the end of the bung has snapped off.

I'd say it just a cover to stop water getting into the chassis, if you stick your finger inside the hole you will probably feel/see a whitish/yellow wax which is to stop rust. You need to get another one to be honest, it probably just pushes on. I've worked in a car factory for 20 years and have seen similar things. I'd nip to Audi and get them to bring the part up on their system, it will be something like 'underbody chassis sealing bung'. Get what it's called and then try http://www.eurocarparts.com/

AndoverS7, you're totally right! It was item #22. The part number was on the item as '8V0802847A'. I googled this part number and it's a part called 'rear jack socket'.

It's purpose is:

"The pinch welds, or seams, on your vehicle are a great lifting point on your vehicle, but can start to sag and cause damage to the body from the jack itself. This jack socket helps prevent that damage by providing a contact area for the OEM or aftermarket jack to keep the body of your vehicle protected and give you a flat surface lifting point to easily jack up your vehicle. This jack pad socket is for the rear of the vehicle and fits on the right side."
