    Hi guys,

Lots of you probably know my car already as it's plastered all over the internet, Instagram, facebook whatever but I haven't as yet made a progress thread so this will be it! My old car

Lots of you probably know my old black murdered out stage 2 Audi A1, on AirRex and Porsche twists. I absolutely loved this car and owned it for just under 3 years. It was running around 180bhp but I was starting to get a little stuck with ideas, I was extremely happy with how it turned out but, unfortunately, I was involved in quite a serious car crash involving a lorry that pulled out in front of me. Luckily I was okay but the car suffered over £12k worth of damage and was written off. I stripped the car back to standard and off it went to a scrapyard in the sky.

I always loved the A1 but just wish it had a little more power... I test drove the S3 hatchback, saloon, golf GTI, golf R and Audi S1 and decided on the S1 mainly because it was unique, I loved the colours that it came in and absolutely loved my A1. Luckily Milton Keynes Audi had one in stock that exceeded my spec wishlist so put my deposit down and picked it up the next week!

The first couple of mods were to transfer my number plate onto the car, fit some shorter plates, de badge the back and fit some black Audi rings onto the front. I also picked up an MK Performance red intake hose at the same time.

Next, on the list I decided to tidy the rear end a bit more, I ordered a tinted glass bung for the re wiper hole from Gecleant.de. I've always been a fan of trying to clean up the rear ends of cars, I think they look a lot nicer/meaner without all the badges and wipers that come on them as standard.

Obviously, I coated all my windows with a nano coating before so it made my rear wiper redundant anyway...

As you can see, it made the rear end alot tidier... I then decided that I wanted to go a bit more down the black/yellow route and had the rear tailgate painted black by Reflex Auto Design in Daventry. Couldn't fault the finish it was absolutely spot on and really made the rear end stand out.

When I stripped my A1 back to standard I decided that we would try and retain the air suspension from that to use on the S1. I knew of one S1 that had air suspension on before but I think they were using some custom Airlift bags not AirRex. This would be the first S1 on AirRex so we didn't really know what to expect and AirRex were using it as a test car for measurements and was a bit of trial and error but I love a challenge.

Luckily the front struts were almost a completey straight fit onto the S1 however the rear bags were far from that. On the A1, the spring is integrated into the chassis leg wheras on the S1 it is all independent due to the Quattro, this meant that the rear end was basically MQB platform so we ordered an S3 and Golf R rear end kit however we had already installed the front struts (rookie mistake) so just meant I could only air out on the front for a week...

We had a lot more work to do in terms of getting it sitting lower, obviously it's nowhere near low enough on the front, still needed to do some archwork and chop some arch liners up but it was getting a bit closer...

After a week or so of back and forth and measurements and checking things would work we had a rather nice parcel from AirRex with a rear MQB setup that should fit my car, we got the car into the workshop on Saturday and began trial fitting the rear. We were happy with fitment and the car ended up sitting a little bit nicer!

With the car finally on air suspension, I headed up to Birmingham for a quick photoshoot with one of my sponsors OCD Finish. I was very happy with how the car was sitting, however, there is always room for improvement and I knew that we could get the car sitting a bit lower but that was some development for another time...

Unlike my previous car I actually had a pretty clear picture of what I wanted to do with this car and what direction I wanted to take it in. My A1 was very typically "stance" like, obviously it had the air suspension but also very heavy, wide rear wheels with the stretch budget tyres and setup to drive stupidly low and handle like ****. I liked the look but the drive was dire, I was bored of driving a car that looked cool but was a nightmare to drive and wanted to create something that I could drive like it was intended. The S1 is a performance car at the end of the day...

I decided that I would keep the car on air suspension but just make sure that it was all setup to handle optimally. I would then take the car down a motorsport route and just concentrate on performance. I wanted the car to be around 400bhp when finished with handling/suspension modifications that would improve the way the car handled.

For this reason I decided on some OZ Racing Ultraleggera 18x8 in satin black. They weren't cheap but they weighed around 8kg each and are amazing quality wheels that would aid in the goal that I had for the car. Coupled for this I ordered some Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres to compliment this, I've tried them in the past and couldn't fault them, again not cheap but that's the price you have to pay when you have a vision you want to achieve...

I was quite happy with the end product...

After about a week someone decided that they couldn't see a bright yellow car parked in front of them and reversed into it in a car park and drove off without leaving a note, instead leaving me with a nice dent in my rear bumper and another trip to a bodyshop.. :rage::rage::rage:

Back to Reflex Auto Design again to have this repaired, literally dropped it off the next day as it broke my heart seeing the car like that. I have my suspicions that it was one of my neighbours but I couldn't actually prove it so ended up having to foot the bill myself, it came out looking like new again...

I then attended Ultimate Dubs with the car, obviously nowhere near finished but was nice to get some positive feedback on it. I wanted to make this car very different, I don't really see it as a show car even though it is on air suspension as it's built mainly for me to have fun with...

Next up on the list for me was to start thinking about performance which was the main reason that I bought the car in the first place. I always had visions of taking the car to at least stage 2 possibly even stage 3 so I really just wanted to get the big bulk purchases out of the way first. I've always been a fan of Remus exhausts, the aggressive nature of them and how their variety of tailpipes couple with the sound and performance benefits that they bring.

I ordered a Remus cat back with custom oversize chrome back tailpipes with carbon inserts. As they were just finishing development, mine would be the first customer car to have this system fitted but I wasn't worried as Remus' products are always top notch. After a week they arrived and we began fitting the system...

Obviously, the pipes weren't aligned very well in the above photo as they move alot when they expand for the first time, now all tightened up and aligned correctly. More to come...

Stunning ride, love the look of the Remus tailpipes. How do you rate the sound in real life?

Hey, what is the ET spec of your wheels and did you use any spacers?
