S4 , looking to buy !

Hi Guys,

Was pointed to this forum by a good friend of mine who has a S3, im looking to get a S4.

Just wanted some tips on what to look out for when buying, common issues, things to check and so on

Good choice of motor imo. Read everything in this link for some good info. I looked at a similar guide years ago when i bought my S4.

Thanks for that dan, whats the deal with milleage, what do people think of ones that are over 100k ?

I really want to get owners views of them and so on

I am not too fussed as my plan is to run it for a year, then take it off road to be powered up a bit more.

with good service over 100k is fine

but with the s4, expect to do some tlc

bushes etc etc

chassis and engine should be fine however...

Whenever time you going to see a S4 make sure you take a laptop with you with VAG cable that will tell you alot about the engine and other bits

things I have had to do... well not all "had"

all suspension bushes
rear diff mounts
stat
alternator
all aux belts and pullies etc
cambelt
rear caliper
DV's
few vac hoses

On mine which had 108k FSH when i bought it, I changed:

Both rear O2 sensors (required)
Coolant Temp Sensor & After run mod (Not required, but a mod)
DV's

And thats it upto 122k when i sold it on......regrettably. (Got bored!!! lol)

i bought my s4 with 78000 on the clock its now got 91000 and im starting to replace all the expensive stuff on the car. suspension arms, springs, hoses, siezed calipers,n75, maf sensor. it may be better to look for a higher mileage car that has had most of the work done. it may save you some money in the future hth
