S4 Avant Collection Went Horribly Wrong GUTTED!!

So today I went for my collection of my S4 Avant... it's absolutely stunning!! I was so happy when I pulled the sheet off! We got inside for a tour around. Then the unthinkable happened!! After a 3 month wait... I've sat in it and started it.. and that's as far as my collection went.. the cars MMI wouldn't work.. just a black screen... so after lots of apologies the S4 was taken into the workshop... it's now awaiting diagnostics software and will hopefully be fixed tomorrow.. the dealer has given me a fully loaded A6 Avant for now.. I'm absolutely gutted...

That's really crap! You'd think that sort of thing would've been picked up at PDI? And doubt it would've happened since then, surely.

Yes I would of thought so!! My sales guy was extremely annoyed with what had happened! He also said the same as you..

If it's any consolation, a friend was picking up his new BMW G30 and same thing. No sat nav, they kept him and the car there for hours to try and fix it and no luck. Something has to be transmitted and diagnosed from Germany and he drove hundreds of miles to this dealer so had to go all the way home empty handed! They eventually got the car to him days later. These damn electronics.....

These B9 Audi's do seem to have a lot of electrical gremlins, maybe they are just to complicated for their own good. There seems to be a lot of threads started with early life failures of electronics.
Which is weird as it's not like the technology hasn't been around...

I was thinking along the same lines. The tech in the A8 and A6 that's now filtered its way down to the A4 has been around for a number of years so I'd imagine the bugs should've been worked out by now really.

Today's update.. Audi have run a diagnostics on the S4 and have found an error code. They have no idea what the error code means and are in contact with Germany. They have told me it may need a new MMI. I have now lost my patience with Audi and have started firing the *%€#'s.. why was this not picked up in quality control?! Why did it not get picked up on the PDI. I've told them that if they have to start taking the car apart I don't want it as it's lost the 'brand new' feel to it. I'm absolutely gutted. I'm handing back the A6 Avant later and he's swapped it for an S4 saloon.

Damn, that's unlucky, if it's an easy fix, then you can understand things go wrong, but if they have to replace things by pulling it apart, that's a whole different story like you said, the new car experience is already tainted.

Hope it gets sorted, keep us posted.

Also if you buy a car that's been in production for a year you'd expect any faults to have been ironed out...
Yes, you might expect that if you had never bought an Audi before. Is there any Audi model that has had ALL known faults fixed by the time production ends?

Today's update.. they are now comparing voltages around the canbus system between my car and another S4...still no lead as to when I can pick my new car up...

Perhaps I should have put just 'major faults'?

I think you should go down the 'car not fit for purpose' route and get a replacement .. consumer rights and all that !!
They've had their chance to rectify the issue

Exactly what I would do, I would contact Audi CS first and get them to agree with it..

Yea that's what I didn't say I wouldn't want it now with after techs crawling all over it pulling off who knows what would just okay on my mind.

I've been in a similar situation, so be aware of your rights.

1) If the car has a significant fault within the first 30 days you can reject the car outright, you do not have to accept a repair or a replacement, you can have a full refund
2) If you have had the car between 30 days and 6 months, you have to give the dealer one attempt to fix the car.

Point 1 is critical, but at the moment you are still covered. Of course it's better to have the dealer on side and talk through your options with them, don't shout and rant try to be reasonable faults happen, but also you only have so much patients, if they have no clue as to the cause then you should be looking at either a replacement or walking away, if a replacement then you will have to discuss temp car and who provides it.
Also, and I can't stress this enough as mine went south quickly, make sure you follow up all coversations with an Email confirming what was said, or make sure the dealer summarises what you have discussed in an email, this includes any conversations re specifications, quotes and finance quotes with any further discounts they may offer.
The dealer I dealt with used the same quote number to give me 3 options, so the only one saved was the last one they gave, this caused me lots of problems when they turned around and starting with the lies to cover their backs.

I really hope it gets sorted soon for you.

There's just been a relevant case on Judge Rinder (i know, i know, i'm bored) that confirms what TripleD has said.
It maybe of interest and you'd be able to catch it on ITV+1 or ITV player - its the second case of todays episode..

Hope it gets sorted...

Just to add to what TripleD said, if you paid ANY of it by credit card, even a £50 deposit, then the credit card company are liable to help you recover the FULL cost of the car. This doesn't just apply for cars, but for ANY item purchased on a credit card with a value of over £100, even if you only paid £5 on the card. As long as the value exceeds £100 they will cover you and fight your corner for you. Having a bank / MasterCard fight your case gives you FAR more leverage than you doing it yourself. Keep that in mind ;)

Hi all,

Today's update.. they have now found the fault. The MMI module in the glove box is faulty. A new one has been ordered from Germany and will hopefully be here by Tuesday next week. They have to be pre programmed for each car. I was beginning to lose the will to live and was very frustrated with the situation. But after being invited into slough Audi to talk to my sales advisor and his manager Laurence Mills i couldn't thank them enough in how they have handled the situation. It was my birthday last Tuesday so they have paid of my birthday meal with my family at the value of £195. They have also said they would refund me for fuel I have used in the S4 saloon they have given me until mine is fixed. I've been reassured the car will not be taken apart and that it will be in fully working order with no damage when I collect. I understand that things go wrong but the way the dealership have handled the situation has been very professional.

On a more happier note. Here is a sneak photo of my new S4 Avant.

Always had fantastic service from Slough, and it's great to see they've restored your faith in the car! Mistakes happen, but it's how they're dealt with that separate the good dealers from the bad. Hopefully you'll be on the road with it in no time!

I'm a big fan of Audi Slough, and go out of my way to take my cars there. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has been impressed by them :)

It looks to be a perfect colour combo, and look forward to seeing plenty of pictures.

Good to hear they have traced the issue, and it's a simple module replacement.
Great to hear they are looking after you as well, good customer service seems a rare thing these days.
