Does anyone else suffer from wheelspin in damp/wet conditions? A couple of times recently I've noticed it.

Most recently today nailing it up a slip road in the damp-wet the esp light was going mad going up through the gears (s-tronic). Another time today as a test from about 5mph hard acceleration had the front wheels bouncing.

It might be normal but not noticed it before. I had it MOT'd and the dsg oil changed a few weeks ago and wondered if they have deactivated something then and not reinstated it.

It's out of warranty now by a few weeks so I'm hoping its normal....

Cheers

Sorry but can't say I've noticed that, especially not up through the gears as you say.

I've purposely tested it from a slow rolling start in 1st and it's been fine.

Only time I've noticed wheelspin (slightly) is pulling hard out of a junction but that's understandable considering you've got your foot down hard and the wheels turned

Tyres have good tread left? And aren't ditchfinders or similar brands?

Yep here too. P Zeros with 5mm tread and correct pressures. ESP lights up 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the dry and also in 5th when accelerating hard on slightly damp roads.

Might it be dependent on mods. I would presume an S3 running stage 1 or 2 with other mods might have a bit more uummpphh than maybe a stock car..

Or maybe @Rob2k68 you are an animal, lol

Rob, you've got about a million horsepower, so your experience might not be typical of most owners...

Got new tyres all round, OEM Conti's.

When I have noticed it previously as you say azibux1 is when I have been turning from a junction so sort of expect it.

Today I've had it both from low speed rolling and then hard through the gears.

Concerning....

That is rather strange, I obviously haven't gone flat out through all the gears in the wet, but hard from 1st to 2nd or 3rd from a rolling start was okay

Be interesting to see if you get the same issue in the dry now also? Haldex maybe no longer working if so? Could check the fuse, but obviously there are other aspects which could stop it working also

Never lost grip in a straight line, only twice from memory pulling out hard left from a junction.

Think I was getting 4 wheel spin going up a slip road today with ESP OFF !

I have noticed the traction light on in mine more than my GTI.
I have got Hancocks on my FL, so hopefully they will wear out soon and I can get some decent rubber.

Hmmmm....wheel spin in the wet or damp. It might be time to ask Lewis Hamilton for his opinion on this matter!

I tried to replicate the slip road test today in the dry and it was like a rat up a drainpipe, there was no hint of esp light or wheelspin shudder so perhaps it was just the damp conditions.

Hmm good to hear. Like you say perhaps damp + cold tyres?

I can get the ESP to blink once in 1st and 2nd in the wet, but no loss of power or actual feeling of wheels spinning. The only time I get noticeable wheelspin is when turning hard left or right out of a junction whilst on a hill... then it grips and goes like stink! :)

Haldex spitting out error codes on the dyno so may well go some way to explain my wheel spin issues.

Booked in tomorrow to have a Haldex repair kit fitted then hopefully another dyno run.

After a very spirited pull out of a junction turning left heading home tonight I got a small amount of wheel spin. Tyres were certainly cold and the roads damp.

Thought I would post this here as it seems to be effecting a few S3's on here...
Had my car in for a service and was told that the Haldex pump and new oil was required on a TPI...This check was only carried out because I mentioned the car wheels spinning when I gave it some on the 'loud' pedal....
Here is a copy of the e mail that was sent to me...

''Good morning Paul,

Fault in system regarding Haldex clutch pump faulty (sporadic fault)

Audi technical information recommend changing the Haldex pump and replacing the oil with new – under warranty.

WoW good feedback mate ;o) - think I read somewhere that this is an issue with 15 plate cars ??

Also seen recommendations from independent specialists that Haldex oil and filter are replaced every 20k miles - wonder if Audi will adopt this ?

Cheers mate...Didn't realize there was an issue to be honest...lol.
Just mentioned it at the service desk and they said they would look into it...
With all the work you have done on your car do you think they will replace yours? Or is there a different issue with your Haldex unit....
I doubt Audi would replace the oil every 20k unless you ask them to ??

Interesting well mines a 15 plate. Might have to see if I can get it looked at although I suspect with Audi service it'll be 6 weeks to get it booked in and hopefully by then the S4 will be here, so they can have the S3 back and they can sort it out in there own time.

Got my car back £178.99 worse off...Not too bad really for first service....
Regarding the haldex pump....What they told me was they need to replace my current pump with the new revised pump that's in the F/L S3's....She didn't know if it's the same issue with all Quattro A3's...They are waiting on the part to come in but want to make sure it's the newer rev pump before they book me in..Hopefully in 2 weeks time...When it's done I will try and get the new pump part number and post it on here....
There was also a software update done on my car which was flashed up as a recall...96e1 is the number..It's an upgrade on the power management on the ecu. not sure what it's done but I can't notice anything different..
They tweaked my headlamps as they were a little low.
ps I asked if they could give me something decent regarding a courtesy car when it's in getting the pump done...I asked if I could try out a TTS they have in and told me to ask sales when I come in....So here's hoping for a decent test drive??
That's it really for a couple of weeks at least.Hope it helps out any of you guys who have issues with wheelspin...:friends:
