S3 Service Time

My first service is just around the corner at 11k and have contacted the dealers re the type of oil required as I'm getting a specialist to do it. I have rang round the dealers and get various results for the brand of oil used from Mobil 1 ESP 5w 30 to Castrol SLX 5w 30 Longlife 3??

They said as long as its 5w 30 it does not matter but I'd rather keep it on the same oil from the factory, does anyone know the factory oil?

Lastly Iv'e been told the 2.0 TFSI oil filter is the same for the S3, is this correct as I want the right one on!

My new S3 came with 1 litre of Castol SLX 5W 30 oil. So I would guess that this is what's in the tank.

Mine too but have heard its Mobil 1 put in at the factory but that's not confirmed?

My S3 was supplied with a bottle of Mobil 1 yet the engine filler cap shows the Castrol logo.
I think the dealer provides the top up bottle and the cars are factory filled with Castrol, remember reading an article in Audi Driver about Castrol working with Audi to produce high temperature long life oil.

When I visited the Ingolstadt factory a couple of years ago and had a full afternoon tour with a senior english speaking , he told me the oil that is put in from new is slightly different from the normal oil that should be used. The oil is designed to be in the car until the first service.

I think the oil supplied by the dealer with a new car depends on what make they generally purchase rather than what's in the car.

It's true that Castrol have done a lot of work developing long-life oils with VW/Audi and the specifications are based on their products.

How much are you saving by using a specialist if you don't mind me asking ?

Whatever saving there is will be wiped off the part ex value because it wont have had a full audi service history. I am all for using independants out of warranty, but whilst the car is in warranty and still fairly new, it makes financial sense to stick with the dealers.

Totally disagree, every car I have ever traded in (approx 10) they have only ever asked if it has full service history NOT full dealer service history! Plus it has never been checked. Audi want a rip off 320 quid for a first service which will only be a oil change on a car that has done 11k.

My mate who is a ex Audi mechanic and set his own business up wil probe charge 150-180 with genuine Audi parts.

As long as genuine parts are used the dealer has to honour any warranty claim.

I cant see the point in using a specialist on a nice new S3, would put me off buying it. £320 for the first AVS service, shop around mate Guildford Audi did mine for £170 including VAT.

I have shopped round and all the dealers in the North East are the same franchise therefore same prices! I know my mate will be more thorough than the garage and won't rip me off with prices. I won't be selling private therefore no one to be put off at sale directly to me.

Would a stamp in a book really put you off when backed up with receipts and invoices to show what's been done?

If this includes more premium brands such as Audi / BMW etc then you have been lucky. Of course it depends where you trade it in as well, first BMW I traded in had about £1,500 knocked off the price because it didnt have full BMW Dealer history, two services had been done at a good independant.

The main reason they do this is because Audi / BMW cannot sell that car on themselves because it wont meet the Audi / BMW Approved Used Cars criteria, so they put it out to the trade.

If you know you are going to keep the car for a long time, then its probably worthwhile going down the indy route, if your looking at a shorter term then it could end up not saving you anything, especially as you say your not going to sell private.

my local audi dealer wont part ex an audi to sell on their forecourt without it having a full audi service history,

if it doesnt have FASH then it gets sold to trade which means a lot less part ex value, my dad is having that issue at the moment with an 02 plate a4.

Solihull Audi (B'ham) quoted me £204 - I'd expect min 10% off this when the time comes.

I think I'd consider making a journey as suggested and stick with the Audi for the first 3 yrs at least and use your mate to do anything outside of the normal service regime, ie brakes, fluid, air con service etc.

had my car at the garage the other day for them to adjust the seat cables, while it was there they said it is due for a service, it,s on 9500miles also the front tire tread is low. but im unsure if i will use them for the service. because as said before first service is only oil filter and brief check. im waiting for stockport audi to ring me back with a price before i decide

York was by for the cheapest for me, £100 cheaper then 3 other dealers
