So the time has come to get rid of my S3, I’ve enjoyed the car but have fancied a change for a little while now and when a 68 reg S5 came up the other week for a bargain price at a BMW dealer I couldn’t refuse.

Problem is now I’m trying to sell my car and rather than get ripped off via p/x I’m wondering what you all recommend in terms of trying to get a quick sale with the car ready to go vs getting the best price. I’ve tried Tootle but the offers are for the most part insulting :tearsofjoy: I’m currently debating listing on Autotrader at a cheap price and hoping a dealer comes along and offers to take it off me, is this likely?

So what do you think this car is worth, and what can I reasonably expect to get without a private sale which I don’t want the hassle of?

3door, May 17 registered with 15k miles and 4 new tyres last month and major service with Audi.

Options: 19” Alloys, Mag Ride, Black Ed; Privacy Glass and B&O Sound System, Super Sport Seats, Extended Leather, Parking System Plus, Hill Hold Assist, Tech Pack Advanced with Virtual Cockpit, Folding Wing Mirrors, Red Brake Calipers and 5 year Audi warranty.

Any help appreciated :icon thumright:

Definitely worth trying AT, should sell quickly with that spec.

Thanks, I’ll give him a call tomorrow best I’ve been offered so far is just over £25k which isn’t too bad I guess but testing the water with other dealers.

Worst I’ve been offered was a sports car specialist who offered £21k, I struggled not to laugh down the phone

Ah ok cheers.

My S3 was bought by "The Car Specialist' in Sheffield and gave me pretty close to an autotrader price without the hassle. Contact a few off of Tootle to say would you offer £x that's what I did, before that the offers were coming up short.

My S3 was lower spec than yours, but a saloon.and had 23k miles. Sold for £26.5k

I advertised both my R8 and MK7 Golf GTI performance on Autotrader.

Both times Dealers phoned up wanting the car. Both times they didn't try to knock thousands off. They came out to check the car was as advertised and to check paperwork etc. Neither test drove.

Both said, they do check Autotrader (and alike) for cars they want as stock.

So, you never know. If they're looking for your spec car, they'll probably come calling.

I’ve had good results using Pistonheads web site. Sold my last 2 cars very quickly using this site. And it was free last time I used it.

You have to be careful selling a car with a value over £20k, I got some silly offers on Tootle and AutoTrader when I tried selling my Q5. In the end I did a sale or return deal with Florio Targa cars near Portsmouth, they picked up the car and sold it in a couple of months. I got a small profit (£1.5k) once Audi FS were paid off. I reckon they sold it for £25-26k.

People spending that kind of money need p/x and finance facility usually which only a dealer can offer them. Unless of course you're selling to a cash buyer or a motor trader.

Best of luck!

Sold my 2018 Q5 via AT. Key is to sort it all at the bank, buyer settled my Audi Finance (after seeing settlement and speaking to VWFS) and transferred the difference to me.

You always get the callers trying it in with silly offers or wanting P/X even though you specify NO P/X.

Fairly painless, but does cost as opposed the likes of PistonHeads etc

You did well - was that a private buyer or trade?

I sold mine on here in a couple of days.
It was top spec and I listed it at a couple of grand or so over the p/ex price.
The car was finance free which made it easier and they did a bank transfer while sat in the car on the drive.
Yours is a good spec too, so list it without being greedy and see what happens

AutoTrader and an eBay Classified (as opposed to auction).
Just being out and about going about my business, I was surprised how many people I saw looking for cars on eBay on their phones but didn't see anyone viewing AutoTrader.

Am selling my 8V at the moment on AutoTrader but there is a critical price point at which you get views but no serious interest; just lowball random offers.

I haven't had a great experience trying several of the 'we will buy your car' type companies.

I suppose it does vary, sold my Q5 for just under £32k
