Evening all,

I wondered if any of those lucky new S3 stronic owners had tried launching it yet? Any feedback on how it went? How do you actually use it? Does the S3 record 0-60 times automatically?

Every day since collecting it!

Yeah ive used it 3 times now. They went very well, no drama what so ever, it just makes you laugh!

Basically I just turn traction control off, stick it in manual mode, foot on brake and floor the throttle, easy... too easy actually.

When you floor the throttle do the revs go to the red line or automatically stay at circa 4K revs?

They stay at 4k revs. I don't always launch at 4k revs though sometimes a bit less if the roads soaking wet.

I cant believe you havnt launched it yet jonny... tut tut

haha i know!

I'm a bit precious with new things, don't want to break anything etc, but gonna do it this week!

So to confirm - ESP off, Dynamic mode, gear knob into manual, left foot on brake, right foot flooring accelarator then let go of brake?

Good to see its easy to use! Does it make much difference on the pull away? Have you clocked a 0-60? Only reason I ask is my dealer who has an S3 said he's only managed 5.2 secs so far (but don't know if he's been using an app or something) and I forgot to ask him

Yep although you can have it in sport mode but I prefer manual plus it launches faster in manual, if you time the gear changes right.

5.2 is pathetic, I know one lad on here took one for a test drive and clocked 4.7 and the car only had 170 miles on the clock, I reckon 4.5 easy with vpower and a looser engine.

It doesn't eat the clutch. A guy with a Golf R (same gearbox dq250) has done 100s of launches and is running a loba 400 turbo in his golf.

sounds like fun....
my old car had LC, never used it!

Wow 4.63 is quick to 60. Not many cars on the road to match that figure.

And much quicker than a manual could get near to................

:sign_omg:

A stage 1 remap pulling in a 0-60 time of around 3.9 seconds shouldn't be out of the question i'd imagine?

Thanks for others thrashing there cars early. I didnt know if I could hold off for 1000 mils before giving it a good and flat out blast.

Has anybody tried a smartphone app for monitoring 0-60 times using the gps, I have read some bits on the web with mixed opinions. But must be better than trying to guess it yourself.

I don't think consumer GPS would refresh data quickly enough for that and you'd need specialist kit.

A passenger with an eye and a stopwatch would be cheaper.

John.

personally I use dynolicious ! provides HP and times !

really good app

It's the best :):):) Don't be afraid to give it a go! It's easy to be overly precious about a new car but these features are there to be used!

It's not like an early GTR where your only allowed to do like six launches before voiding your gearbox warranty. So long as the engine oil is at operating temp your not going to cause any more excessive wear at 100 miles than you are at 10,000 miles.

That said, doing it off every set of traffic lights is probably going to mean your car will be well overdue it's gearbox service when it eventually comes around. Everything in moderation as they say...

You don't have to have the gearbox in manual mode either, it's easier to leave it in sport unless you want to feel a bit more involved.

Anyone clocked any new times, I think 4.63 is the best yet?

Ive done a 4.7 two up timed with a race logic box.

Its accurate, its the same kit they use in the magazines and all these timed events, and when I said two up I meant I had a passenger, yeah always vpower ;)

Anyone done any further runs, and have any new 0-60 times?

Not trying to **** on anyones bonfire here, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the ECU's on these new cars log every launch control attempt using an incremental counter.

The only reason I raise it is that should you suffer any clutch / gearbox issues later on I'd hate the dealers to use that information against you in a warranty claim situation. I will try and find the source of the original information, but rather be safe than sorry!

is there any advice against using it in the manual ? If not there is nothing to be worried about

what I read is that you can't do more than 200. After that, lanch control is disabled

Surely Launch control is now 'official' as opposed to so hidden feature, Audi could never use it against you in a warrenty claim? It woudl be like saying, we won't fix your broken turbo, since you've been using it too much?

I know in the past that some S-Tronic boxes didn't have it as an official feature, so that claim might have had some legs?

200 in total? In a year? Seems an arbitrary number.

I'll see if I can get an official view on it as internet hearsay can be misinterpretted, I will see if the horses mouth at Audi UK has a view.

This smells like BS to me.
