S3 Mirror - Looks to be rusting

I washed my S3 yesterday and noticed some heavy pitting / what looks like rust on the mirror caps. Has anyone else had this issue, rest of the car looks fine.

Could be contaminants from the road. Have you tried some detail products like: tar remover, iron x or using a clay bar?

Looks like a combination or stone chips and bonded contaminants. The matte finish is also bad for contaminants bonding.
I would try something like carpro trix as that will remove iron and tar deposits.

Is that chrome mirror caps? If so, try a little metal polish. It looks like what you get on a chrome exhaust, salt can cause it so if not been cleaned throughout winter.
