I have a Ming Blue 2001 S3. When i got the car it was in less than an ideal state to be honest with you. It lacked lustre and depth from the paint and had some nasty swirl marks which stuck out like a sore thumb, reflecting the light badly it made the car look dull & un-interesting.
Heres what i did to satisy myself until the summer comes again so that i can give the car a "full" workover.
1. Purchased a rotary polisher. Italian job which is supposed to be very very very good, known by very few but used by professionals. Felisatti is the name of it, not sure on the model number, very hard to come by too. It's truely an awesome bit of kit. I compared mine to various others available and for me it came out trumps @ £200 just about it wasn't cheap but the results are awesome and it's easy to use with easy start and variable speed.
2. Purchased some Menzerna cutting polishes to take out the swirl marks left by numerous nasty wash methods by previous lady owner. Used various cutting pads and polishing pads during the proccess.
Products used :-
Menzerna Power Gloss (s34a)
Menzerna Final Finish (p0106fa)
Tried out some 3M final stage polish to get some extra shine to the paint.
3. Applied a paint sealer in the form of collinite 476s. Excellent stuff @ £15 or there abouts. Lasts months and will give you a water bead like nothing else!
4. Applied Zaino Z8 to give it an even more wet look and believe me the difference from before and after was totally unreal. I was so happy with the end result i just couldn't believe what i was seeing.
I'm really happy with my car now and it's "my clean" if you see what i'm saying. Each person has their own idea of what clean is, it's down to that person as to how far to take it when cleaning a car.
I'd recommed
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk for all your car cleaning/detailing needs. Very nice place and even nicer people.
Let me know if you need any advice but i'm sure you'll get on just fine, it's a steep learning curve with the use of polishers and using them properly with all the different types of pads available and also all the types of polishes/compounds/waxes/sealants etc but once you have your "routine" your car can be so much better!
