I don't think it is worth it for me.

£700 is definitely the highest price I have ever heard of though!

In very simple terms car gets written off, your insurer pays X. Gap insurer makes it up to the invoice value.

Yes on the policies I've had that's how it works with return to invoice.

Audi's biggest 2 after sales boosts, Gap and paint protection, both to avoid.

ALA are a top company, and i have used them for all vehicles now.

The highest Audi price i have heard off is £800, for an A1, not an even an S1.

A promo code for ALA to get 10% discount, for A1 forum members (lol), is : Gap12

Use it wisely... :yellowrs4:

£116.25 per year for return to invoice seems too good to miss.

That's expensive, and much better deals about, but as long as you are happy with what you paid then it's a good deal.

ALA return to invoice 3 years was £110 covered up to 20k difference between what car insurance would pay out and price of car when I bought it at £32k, this was taken out 18 months ago when I bought the car. The good thing is that they allow you to change vehicles within reason. Ive not had to claim but do trust this company who were which recommended when I bought it and now recommended by honestjohn voters.

GAP is a must. Start it from day one as well, don't be fooled into thinking your normal insurance will 100% for sure replace the car in the first year! Yes they may, but if the same car and spec isn't available in the country then they revert to book price!!!

I paid about £200 for Combined Vehicle Replacement from GAP123 4 years cover (their main office is about 15 mile from me as well :))

GAP123 said:
Pays the difference between Motor Insurers Settlement at the point of loss and the cost of replacing it with another vehicle matching the vehicles original specification age and mileage.

So basically if my car went missing now never to be seen again, I'd get a new facelift one with the same spec. Some GAP insurance will not pay any extra IF the model has changed/gone up in price since you bought yours.

If you go for the cheaper return to invoice, remember the discount you got this time may not be available next time, so you could end up with a shortfall to find!

Audi always start with a high price but are open to offers.

On the day of pickup I said if they would do it for £250 I would take it and surprise surprise they did.
Some others on the forum have managed £200..

Sarcasm is hard on a forum ;)
Not sure if this is just for Aberdeen Audi but they will do a price match on an RTI policy. I prefer to go replacement car though as it covers any price increases.

Have got two motors on two separate GAP policies, both for replacing the cars with claim limit set at £25000 for each one.
GAP insurance.co.uk and the broker was Frank Pickles......quality name.
The 2016 TT s-line was £184 for three years cover and my FL s3 was £170 for three years.
Best bit was we already had GAP on daughters S1 and were able to transfer the policy to her new TT and with 2yrs left on the policy we were also able to add an additional year for a small sum, it was about £40.
They were great to deal with, all on the phone and documents sent by email the same day, highly recommended by me, just google Frank Pickles for the office number.

Yes, 110% get GAP! If you have finance on a car of this value, don't even hesitate it. Audi are really, really ripping you off there.

Audi should be selling it at £500, they used to discount it but now they aren't allowed because of it being an insurance product everyone has to pay the same. I got my first lot for £350 from Audi.

I got a refund when I changed my car, I have used ALA Gap Insurance (Excellent Reviews on comparison sites), it cost approximately £250 for 4 years on a £34,200 return to invoice price. My insurance offers new car replacement in the first year too (elephant) which is good.

There are policies for sub £200, with companies that have little reputation. Search for a reputable company, preferably ALA and get it for a 1/3 of the price.

I claimed on my ALA gap policy when my S3 was written off, they were very good, and paid out in full. Definitely worth it, I'd be driving a much cheaper car now if I hadn't taken the policy.

I paid £115 for Gap on my A3 1.8tfsi from Chris Knott. It's £80 for cars up to £14,999, and then £115 for cars over £15,000. Not sure what the next threshold is before the price goes up again. Originally got it when I got my Ibiza FR a couple of years ago, Seat dealership talked me into £225 when buying. Got home, found Chris Knott, paid £80 and cancelled with Seat.

This is really interesting. I paid 700 for mine. I am still within the 30 days of cancelling my policy for a full refund. Do ALA cover for 175 quid cover the exact same as Audi? Only reason I went with Audi is because they know what they are talking about so thoughtnit was good??

Yea cancel the GAP mate. Not only will ALA be cheaper you will also get superior cover....

SMART is up to you. Not sure if you can get better cover elsewhere for that sort of thing.

Okay, that's fine mate will do thanks. So I checked their website, basically do I click on the 'under 10 years old' option, then on build your quote click 'back to invoice plus' and enter invoice cost, level of cover and a term? Or shall I click on the vehicle replacement one?

Also I can see that you can specify certain costs like wheels etc? Is this covered?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Up to you about what sort of cover you want. I went for vehicle replacement cover on my S5 since I got a very large discount and knew I wouldn't be able to get a new S5 for the price I paid for my S5. Mine was £47k and got it for £38.5k. If I just did back to invoice I would be back to £38.5k, which couldn't get me the new S5 with the same spec...vehicle replacement means I get exactly the same regardless of price increases.

Typically a new car will lose 50% of its value, so if your cover is over 3yrs you want GAP cover for at least 50% of the value. That way if you write off your S3 in the third year and your insurance only gives you 50%, you will have enough cover from the GAP to get you back to invoice.

As for alloy, I'm pretty sure ALA don't cover diamond cut? I actually got alloy cover from my dealer for free, and it's been very good! I would even pay for it, as it covers full refurbishment of diamond cut and gives you 6 repairs a year.

Problem is, how can you tell which of them will turn out to be "dodgy"? The issue with GAP insurance, unlike normal car insurance, is that you are taking out a policy for potentially upto five years. No one could ever predict if two or three years into your policy, the company goes bust :(

I shall probably re-arrange my cover with ALA, going by the recommendations on this forum, but who's to say they won't go bust a couple of years down the line? I know all financial contracts are a gamble but this is quite a tricky business.

Just a quick one. The full list price.. is this the price including interest? I bought the car on PCP for about 40k, but with interest it's more.. would I put 40k in the list, what should I put for the suggested?

For mine (gapinsurance.co.uk) It was the price i paid for the car. So it was actually the discounted price.

The interest is nothing to do with the value of the car. That's a charge based on your finance agreement.

Just got my GAP through ALA, cool customer service. Just hope it's decent. What they were explaining to me was decent anyway. Seems like Admiral will give me the market value of the car, and ALA will give up to 22.5k limit which isn't bad. 239 quid! Saved myself atleast 500 quid!! Now debating whether or not I need this SMART insurance.. I'll much rather have the Alloy care.

Sorry to drag this back up, I should be getting mine soon and have been told the Audi GAP will be £450!

Had a little look on ALA last night but couldn't work out what was what really, would I be best going for replacement vehicles cover as the return to invoice seems to look at what you've paid rather than the price before discount. List price of mine was £40,090 so not sure what to put as the level of cover either?

I've tried a couple and on vehicle replacement plus with a £25k level of cover over 4 years it says £307. Seems like some of you guys have got it a lot cheaper with them though!

Offer Audi £200 for it on the day of pickup and they will more than likely give it to you.
I offered them £250 and they just said yes, should have gone lower !!

When was that Mike? I got told they're no longer able to discount it, have to be seen as being fair and sell it to everyone at the same price…

Give AlA a ring and find out what the difference in price is, then compare with Audi, see if they can beat it

Has anyone on here ever claimed on it ?

Last August, I told them I could get ALA for £230 so if they did theirs for £250 I would take it. I brought the ALA quote with me.
