I’m about to book my car in for it’s first service and ideally would like a main dealer to do it.

I have been quoted £400!

If I book at Halfords(not keen) then it’s £175 including oil change and using genuine OEM parts.

What are everyone’s thoughts/experiences?

Richard.

Mine was £470 inc VAT for its 1st at 19k miles, but that was paid for by Audi UK so maybe the dealer went and added a bit on, don't know...

I was umming and arring about where to take it before A UK offered me a free service for messing me around.

Even 400 seems excessive for what they do! I wouldn't pay 400 that's for sure, I had this quote from an indy specialist (not sure if they can update the Audi service system though) -

" interim service is £100.00+vat and the cost for a full service with spark plugs is £240.00+vat or without spark plugs is £180.00+vat genuine Audi parts."

£400 just doesn’t sit well with me for what the do (or don’t) - just not sure I want Halfords doing it either ‍♂️

I’m told they price match and I’ve forwarded my Halfords price so will update with their response when I get it.

First service or oil change ?
the service is is basically an oil change + inspection + cabin/pollen filter should be around £350.
Oil change about £175.

I would stay away from Halfords, either use Audi or a VAG specialist.

Tons of threads on this but on average a first oil change is around £240

Had mine done today.

Interim Service (ie oil and filter change) £187 at Macclesfield Audi.

I can’t believe you’ve been quoted £400.

Remember a lot of these dealership chains use a central call centre for bookings and in my experience they are useless and don’t know what they are talking about. And anything you tell them goes in one ear and out the other. So if you can speak to the service department direct.

I've just had my first service done at a VAG Specialist cost me £175 for oil change and filter plus a pollen filter.
They also updated my service history on the Audi database, so check that wherever you take it, they can do that aswell

More worrying that I did just that

Just to clarify then - my car has done 16500 miles and is a year old at end of April.

Warning is on telling me to change oil in ~600 miles.

So this “first service” is basically inspection, oil change & cabin filter change?

Cheers,

Mine has done @ 6500 miles and i should have done it at 4400 or in "56 days".

I went to Audi and they told me it was the first service only oil and filter at £265.

I was told by the independent that the pollen filter would be done as well as oil & filter

First service e.g. after 1 year or 9000 miles should just be an oil change and nothing else I believe. I had mine a done few weeks ago and it cost me £238 at Audi.

Inspection is usually after after 2 years, not sure why your car would need an inspection after just 1 year or need changing anything else. £400 is a rip off and I would shop around at other Audi dealers. I think that you might been quoted for Major service rather than just an oil change.

Why has my car not required servicing til now... bearing in mind it has done 16,500 miles!?

Some of you seem to be on much shorter intervals.

I remember them telling me 2yrs or 18k whichever comes first.

I always knew that with my high mileage it would be that which was the trigger rather than age.

By the way they have just offered me £275 without cabin pollen filter??

Tempted to still ring Macclesfield Audi though as that’s not ridiculously far from me to be doable!

As far as I could tell my car did not receive a service until last week at 19k miles. The MMI said it needed an inspection but not an oil change.
Not sure if the original owner did an oil change and never handed any receipts over to Audi or similar, but I've got no track of it having one.

Cars leave the factory on the variable service plan though which is 2 years / 19k miles for oil and inspection.
If you do under 10k miles a year Audi recommend to have an oil change every 9000 miles or 1 year, and an inspection every 19k/2 years.

I’m guessing the £185 at Macclesfield Audi was the shorter mileage oil change.

Mine needs full inspection as well, so Wakefield Audi’s reduced offer of £275 is probably quite reasonable?

2 Years or 19K is the usual I think and if you're doing high mileage then you would be longer but as 2 years old now and needs inspection cabin filter should be changed as well - Not sure £400 is right though

Cars only 1 year old in April.

Well had my inspection done in November and was around £350 , now they want £266 for oil and filter so over £600 for the two so £400 sounds cheap ! This is second oil service last one was a year ago . Car is 30 months with 14500 miles

My car, 17 months old and on 15600 miles, had it's first service at Dundee Audi last week.
It was showing as 'oil change required in 400 miles' with inspection service due in 3000 miles or by 2 years old (October) along with the pollen filter.
I asked them to do all at the same time - oil change, inspection and pollen filter - and paid £315. The quotes for getting these done separately was far in excess of this.

Yes. Mine was just an “inspection with oil change(flexible)” service. Not the major inspection service.

But in my case this wasn’t the cars very first service. That was done at approx 3000 miles, just before I collected the car (nearly new).

On my previous S3 though the major inspection services where about £280-£300.

Sorry missed that bit - It's just the sensors in the engine/sump etc are saying oil needs changing then but as nearly 17,000 miles and doing high mileage I would change the cabin filter otherwise you could be on 30 - 35,000 miles before it goes in again

You might want to sit down for this one.
My S3 has done 11k and is 13 months old and the oil change due message came up last week.

Called Audi Southend and was quoted £500 !!! for an oil change and first service.
I pointed out that the car was only flagging for an oil change and that the first service was showing as due in 250 days.
Ok then £300 for the just the oil change, came the reply.

Called up QS Tuning who quoted £200 for the oil change, so I thought cool a saving of £100
Took it to them yesterday for the oil change and it turned out be inspection/ first service including updating Audi's records.
So a saving of £300 in all.

I knew Audi's prices were a bit toppy, but that is a complete @$%£ take.

Good info!

They really are having a laugh!!

How many people do you think just accept these prices as “the going rate”??

I had a similar issue with my 2014 S3 - 2015 came up for Oil Change (do low mileage) - Chelmsford wanted £275 - Phoned Southend (Part of the same Essex Audi group) - £295 - Ipswich £235 - In the end my wife was visiting her sister in Birmingham easter weekend and they fitted it in for me £196

They should all do the £199 oil change that you get when the vehicle is 3 years old or more - It's the same oil and filter

Rant over !!

I have 700 miles to Oil Service message now, and am on just over 8k (had the car from new in Sep 17).....yet to call local dealer, but reading all these threads has me worried to the quote - don't mind spending money, when it is worthwhile, but there is no way an Oil Service can be justified as £400-500!!!
Best just crack on an get booked, though :scared2:

Doesn’t seem like much time has elapsed to require oil change... miles are low too??

Mine is going in to Audi for its oil change next Monday, have done somewhere around 5300 miles since I got it last March, I shall be paying £165.

@SILVAF0XX - maybe worth asking if you can supply your own oil too, on my invoice the oil (I think it was just under 6 litres) was costing £90. Can get it no doubt for less than £40...

I don't get how they can charge so much... if we can walk into a store and buy it for half the price Audi servicing charge, surely they are buying it in large quantities and get it for even cheaper? Rip us off on labour, sure.. but parts.... really?

Audi Poole quoted £241.77 so within the realms of acceptable (just!!!) - there is just enough convenience and 'full Audi' to make this worthwhile, imho.....

Is this an inspection as well as oil change?

...also does it include cabin filter?

You could always do the pollen filter yourself. It's piece of cake.

If you can open the glovebox, take something out, put it back and then shut the glovebox again without cocking anything up, you can change a pollen filter.

So many threads on this but I got full service/inspection done recently by an indie for ~£110 labour. I bought all the parts from TPS myself, cost £50, so £160 all in.

People are getting fxcked up the **** in their service costs, it's hilarious and sad at the same time.

I asked Audi dealer why the Oil change service was so expensive - £238 in my case, and they said they use a higher quality oil as its an S car and it's more expensive. I had a little chuckle to myself.

My service cost has effectively gone up by £20

Even with car saying “oil change 500 miles” suddenly the “oil low” light came on today!

Had to dash to Halfords and stick a 1ltr top up in!

Nice being straight up lied to hey...

My mum asked a plummer once why he was charging more for parts than she could get them at a hardware store for, he said that if there is a problem with it, then he has to be the one to go back and return it etc. So it's like admin fee kind of ..... which is valid enough I suppose... but yeah, Audi response... pfft..

Did they see you coming from France mate? That's ludicrous pricing.
To keep warranty it only has to be a VAG 9approved garage using OEM parts.

My first service is next week at VAGBOLTON for £130 and they have a fantastic reputation.
